Back in 2016,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remasteredreleased alongsideInfinite Warfare, completely remastering the iconic single-player and multiplayer modes that defined a generation. When it came to the release of the long-rumoredModern Warfare 2 Remastered, Activision chose a different route byomitting the Multiplayer and Spec Ops modesfrom the remaster entirely and instead promised to bring forward fan-favorite maps from the series toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, to avoid splitting the player base any further between the current game and the battle royale,Call of Duty: Warzone.

It’s already been confirmed in theroadmap for Season 3 ofModern Warfarethat a remake of the map Hardhat would be coming later in the season, the first remade map from 2011’sModern Warfare 3.Hardhat follows a number of beloved maps that have already been remade includingModern Warfare Remastered’s Vacant, Shipment, Crash, and Backlot, andModern Warfare 2’s Rust and Scrapyard. If Infinity Ward plans to continue releasing fan-favorite maps from previous games in the series, here’s a few ideas fromMW3that would be perfect for future seasons.

Seatown

When Activision announcedCall of Duty: Modern Warfarewould be a soft-reboot of the popular series following poor reception toCall of Duty: Ghostsand Infinite Warfare, it made perfect sense. The originalModern Warfareset a new standard for the next generation of first-person shooters, and to this dayModern Warfare 3remains as the highest-selling game in the franchise. Maps like Seatown illustrate everythingMW3did right back in its day, focusing on fast-paced gameplay and balanced map design that allowed players to choose how they wanted to play. Seatown has already beenremade forCall of Duty Online, but considering it’s only available in China, it’s a befitting staple forModern Warfare.

Overwatch

Back whenModern Warfare 3was the latest game in the series, Activision introduced a paid subscription service calledCall of Duty Elite, where DLC maps were released individually on a monthly basis with traditional map packs coming later. Some might say the now-defunct service was ahead of its time. Designed asMW3’s take on the popular Highrise map, Overwatch was released as part of the second DLC drop for the game and is set atop a highrise apartment building in Lower Manhattan, New York, during sunset. We don’t know what’s coming beyondSeason 3 ofModern Warfare, but Overwatch would be a good addition to the roadmap.

Dome

EveryCall of Dutygame always releases with at least one small, close-quarters map that generally ends up being iconic to either the series or at least that game. And while it’s unlikely Infinity Ward would ever add the famous Treyarch map, Nuketown, it has slowly added all of its own iconic maps includingModern Warfare Remastered’s Shipment andModern Warfare 2’s Rust. That leaves onlyModern Warfare 3to complete the trilogy and round out the reboot. Infinity Ward released Shipment released during Season 1 and Rust during Season 2. How aboutModern Warfare 3’s Dome forSeason 4 ofModern Warfare?

Arkaden

Although not nearly on the same level asCall of Duty: Ghosts, one common complaint about the multiplayer mode forModern Warfare is how big a lot of the maps are, which is why there’s a common trend with the maps in this list being small to medium-sized maps. WithWarzoneand Ground War available,Modern Warfareneeds to focus on 6v6 and 2v2 Gunfight if it wants to cater to the needs of all players. Arkaden is one of those maps that was beloved during theMW3days and deserves another shot in the limelight, plus it would help solve the ongoing issue ofModern Warfaremaps being too large.

Underground

Underground was the first multiplayer map ever shown forModern Warfare 3, being featured prominently in the original reveal trailer. Despite the single-player campaign exploring the Westminster underground train station and the fact that the multiplayer map is named after the famous tube system, Underground never actually goes underground. Instead, the fight takes place on the streets in London, fit with gloomy grey skies, tight corridors, and a solid design for addition toModern Warfare.

Fallen

Set in the streets of an abandoned apartment complex near the town of Pripyat, Ukraine, Fallen’s setting is based on the fallout of the infamous1986 Chernobyl disasterwhich also served as inspiration for the fan-favorite single-player mission, All Ghillied Up fromModern Warfare Remastered. Fallen perfectly captures the ghost-town atmosphere of Pripyat, and provides players with a perfect mixture of close-quarters and long-range combat that makes it perfect for all modes from Free For All to Domination and Search and Destroy.

Activision is yet to officially unveilCall of Duty 2020;however, if recent rumors are to believed, it looks like the game may end up beingdelayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Should that be the case, now would be the perfect time for Activision and Infinity Ward to double down on support for bothModern WarfareandWarzone.Rummage through the library of mapsMWR,MW2,andMW3and delivers on the promise of bringing the full multiplayer experience forward.
