It takes most players just over 30 hours to complete the main questline (and most of the main gameplay) inMonster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. However, even upon defeating Oltura, the game’s main major end-game boss, there’s still plenty to keep a dedicated player going.

Monster Hunter Stories 2arguably offers much more for players to do in its post-game than most entries in theMonster Hunterseries. In most of the games, the post-game consists of fightingstronger and stronger monstersuntil a player decides they’re done.Monster Hunter Stories 2, though, just has more variety of activities to do after the main game is finished.
8Fight High-Rank Monsters
As with everyMonster Huntergame, the main post-game activity is hunting harder and harder end-game monsters. Upon completion of themain questline inMonster Hunter Stories 2, the player will be able to fight High-Rank monsters previously unavailable.
These High-Rank monsters have a name emblazoned in Red and include several subspecies such as the Pink Rathian or Fulgur Anjanath. They are typically found in High-Rank Monster Dens, which similarly only appear once the main game is over.

7Complete Eight-Star Side Quests
High-Rank monsters also appear in Eight-Star side quests, which players get access to upon completion of the game too. These Eight-Star side quests pit the player against much, much tougher enemies than in the rest of the game, so it’s well worth spending some time post-game to upgrade the party and gear.
These new side quests are found in the Quest Board alongside normal side quests and don’t require the player to do anything special, like talk to an NPC, to check out. In addition to the High-Rank quarries, thesequests give fantastic rewards, too.

6Continue Upgrading Weapons and Armor
Upgrading weapons and armor through the Smithy is the most obvious way to improve a player’s ability to take on tougher foes. This doesn’t change after the game is over, and in fact, players gain access to a variety of new upgrades, materials, and more upon completion.

It’s well worth spending some time to go over the various weapon and armor upgrade paths to maximize your potential, according to the preferred playstyle of course. It’s a good idea to find a build and work towards it while playing the game normally to save oneself the headache of min-maxing at the end of the game.
5Go On Super Rare Expeditions
Super Rare Expeditions are unlocked at the end of the main questline inMonster Hunter Stories 2, granting access to a wide range of high-ranking Monsties to encounter in a co-op setting. There are three levels of Expedition Tickets, N for 10 Bottle Caps, R for 50 Bottle Caps, and SR for 100 Bottle Caps.
Therelatively pricey SR Expedition Ticketsare the ones used for these Super Rare Expeditions. Elder Dragons and other Elder Monsties are earnable on these expeditions and don’t appear in any lower-ranking ones.

4Try Out The PvP/Co-op System
ThePvP and Co-op systeminMonster Hunter Stories 2is a little bit convoluted and at launch didn’t work for many players. The online population is slowly increasing now, though, and there’s no better time to start playing with (and fighting) other players than at the end of the game.
To try out PvP or Co-op, head to any Quest Board and select the “Versus Battles” option, which will launch a search for opponents online. Be sure to go into the Multiplayer Setup settings to make sure everything is correctly configured for your online session!

3Go Back For Content You Missed
Getting throughMonster Hunter Stories 2can take anywhere from around 20 hours to 40 hours, but completionists can spend upwards of 80 hours in-game. Going back to experience content previously passed over can reveal more interesting parts of the world, expand your capabilities, and elaborate on stories a player might have missed out on.

Though there is plenty to do in the post-game, it’s always a treat to be able to re-visit one’s favorite locations and experience everything the game has to offer.
2Put Together A Better Party…
It’s important to have a decent amount of variety in aMonster Hunter Stories 2party, as different Monsties have unique abilities and stats to complement one another. It’s relatively easy to get through the game, but after the main quest is over it’s a good idea to go back and plan a cohesive, effective party setup.
At the end of the game, players unlock a number of High-Rank areas and activities that players can take on toquickly bolster their ranks. The Elder’s Lair, for example, is an area absolutely rife with High-Rank monsters and monsties alike, as well as High-Rank Monster Dens.

1…And Take On The Elder’s Lair
The Elder’s Lair is unlocked upon completion of the game, and in many ways, it is like a second end-game. After defeating Oltura, the next task for players is to take on this large zone containing the most challenging quests and foes.
Certain monsters are completely unique to this newly unlocked area, too. The Teostra, Dreadqueen Rathian, and Thunderlord Zinogre are just some of the Lair’s inhabitants, and it proves to be a large leap in difficulty even for the most prepared Hunters.
