Following its announcement last March, Funcom and Rocket Pocket Games’ new horror title,Moons Of Madness, has received a release date and a brand new trailer. The sci-fi meetsLovecraftian horror gamehas remained pretty silent over the months since its grand unveiling, but as it turns out, players won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on it.
Moons Of Madnesswill be available for PC on October 22 before eventually launching on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 21 next year. That’s not a long time to wait, but in the meantime, the title’s new 43-second teaser shows off a lot more of the game and the frights it has in store.

This includes the player braving the perilous surface of Mars, approaching a shrine made of human remains, and even fleeing from a screeching tentacled monster. The trailer also begins to hint towards more of the game’s story elements, a demonic woman speaking ominously to the player throughout. It’s clear from the footage alone thatThe Moons Of Madnesswill look to be an intense and thrilling experience that takes horror to a whole new frontier.
WithMoons Of Madnessalso capitalizing on the ethereal creepiness of Lovecraftian horror, it’s clear that the niche genre is seeing something of a cult resurgence in the world of video games over recent years. The Sinking CityandCall Of Cthulhuare just two other titles to have capitalized on the creepy style over the last twelve months, and with both finding relative success with horror fans, it could lead to more games adopting the genre in years to come.Moons Of Madnesswill be the first of these games to combine the style with a sci-fi setting, however, which will no doubt make for an interesting mix up to the traditional trappings of Lovecraftian horror.
Funcom, one of the two teams behind the creation ofMoons Of Madness, has had a fair amount of success in recent years. The team found critical acclaim through its release ofMutant Year Zero: Road To Edenas well as a thriving community in the popular online sandbox gameConan Exiles. Moons Of Madnesswill be the first horror the company’s worked on since 2015’sThe Park, so it is likely to be a change of pace for the studio.
Moons Of Madnesswill release on October 22 on PC, and January 21 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
