Summary
ManyMortal Kombat 1players have taken to social media to lambast the extensive nerfs introduced in the game’s latest update. Their criticism emerged online shortly after another wave of fancomplaints targeted at frequentMortal Kombat 1crasheson PC.
Originally released in mid-September,Mortal Kombat 1debuted to largely glowing reviews, as well as positive buzz from the fandom. NetherRealm Studios proceeded to crank out over half a dozen patches for the game across all platforms, the most recent one of which started rolling out on Tuesday, October 24.
And while the developers have yet to attach a complete changelog to the newly introduced update, early player testing already revealed that the latest patch introduces some notable nerfs to Cyrax, Mileena, Baraka, and Scorpion, among several other characters. Many fans have promptly taken to social media to criticize the contents of the patch, particularly the Cyrax nerf that raises the requirement of his horizontal spin attack to a full Kameo meter. For clarity, Cyrax has so far dominatedtheMortal Kombat 1meta, as his overall move set proved to be equal parts versatile and accessible to newcomers.
Looking at other social media reactions to the newly debuted patch, it would appear that many players also took issue with NetherRealm’s decision to further nerf Scorpion’s damage, arguing that winning with this iconic fighter in the latestMortal Kombatgame was already difficult enough as it is. The developers already made the character slightly less viable in competitive play at the start of October, when a differentMortal Kombat 1update allowed high-parrying of his Twisted Kyo attack.
Meanwhile, some other fans opted to criticize NetherRealm’s decision to release the new update with no patch notes, forcing them to figure out its contents through experimentation. On that note, the officialMortal Kombat 1Twitter account already confirmed that the update’s complete changelog is coming soon. In the meantime, early player reports suggest that the patch doesn’t do anything to address the matchmaking issues with private King of the Hill matches, even though it actually adds yet another KOTH mode to the game.
On a more positive note, it would appear that many fans are thrilled withthe addition of move tagging toMortal Kombat 1. This popular feature that’s also part of the latest update allows players to pin moves to the HUD, consequently making the game significantly more accessible.
Mortal Kombat 1is available now on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
