Summary

Mortal Kombat 1was released last month to plenty of fanfare and critical acclaim. WhileStreet Fighter 6has dominated much of the recent discourse around fighting games this year,MK1showed why the series is the top-selling fighting game franchise of all time.Mortal Kombat 1is filled with incredible re-imaginings of fan-favorite characters, and the first Kombat Pack is set to expand that roster even further. This roster occupies a game with a rich story mode, plenty of single-player content, and a vibrant multiplayer mode that runs on solid netcode.Mortal Kombatknows what its fans want and how to please them, and the leaks for the second Kombat pack showcase this as well as the base game does.

Mortal Kombat 1leakshave suggested that the game’s second Kombat Pack roster is already set in stone. Previous modernMortal Kombattitles have all had multiple Kombat Packs, so its existence is unsurprising. The first Kombat Pack was announced months before the game’s release and leaked around the time of its announcement, so it makes sense that the content for Kombat Pack 2 is already planned, even if it is probably a year away. More surprising, however, is just how strong the roster of the pack appears to be. The second set of DLC characters forMK1appears to be filled with long-requested guest characters and fan favorites from theMortal Kombatuniverse.

Kombat Pack 2 Could Have Some Legendary Guest Characters

The second Kombat Pack forMortal Kombat 1is rumored to contain Sareena, Kano, Noob Saibot, Harley Quinn, Deathstroke and The Doomslayer. This would follow an already massive first Kombat Pack, which contains the likes of Omni-man, Peacemaker, and Homelander alongside returningMKcharacters. The inclusion of Deathstroke and Harley Quinn fit into the supervillain motif established in the first Kombat Pack. Harley Quinn especially has long been requested forMortal Kombat, and while she made an appearance alongside Joker as a skin forCassie CageinMortal Kombat 11, she deserves full character status.

Deathstroke is also a long-requested character for the series. While he may not be as well-known as Harley Quinn, Deathstroke is a truly gross and detestable villain that will fit into the over-the-top violent world ofMortal Kombatseamlessly. The Doomslayer is the outlier here, coming from Id Software’sDoomgamesrather than the DC Universe, but he also fits in. Doomslayer saves the world but is motivated by anger and a desire to kill. While his personality is limited, and his move set will need to be imaginative, the shared sensibilities of theDoomandMortal Kombatfranchises make his appearance a match made in heaven.

Kombat Pack 2 Will Bring Back Fan Favorites

On top of a roster of long-requested guest characters, Kombat Pack 2 is also rumored to be bringing back Sareena, Kano, andNoob Saibot. Kano first appeared in the originalMortal Kombatgame and is the head of the Black Dragon crime organization. He has long been a fan favorite due in no small part to his vulgar personality. Noob Saibot has, in past timelines, been the shadow reincarnation of the first Sub Zero, who was killed in the original Mortal Kombat tournament. The character has long served as one of the franchise’s most iconic villains. The return of Noob and Kano are unsurprising but welcome.

More surprising is the inclusion of Sareena. Sareena is already aKameo fighter inMortal Kombat 1, but has not appeared in playable form in other contemporaryMKtitles. For fans of mid-00sMortal Kombat, she is a staple character, so her inclusion is a great way to pay homage to that era of the series. With the inclusion of Sareena, Kombat Pack 2 has something for every type of fan. Harley Quinn is a well-known villain, Deathstroke is more of a deep cut, Doomslayer is a great video game homage, and the returning characters represent different eras of the franchise well. If the rumors are true, fans ofMK1are in for a strong second round of DLC.

Mortal Kombat 1is available now on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
