When it was revealed that Joker was including in the first Kombat Pack of characters forMortal Kombat 11, the community was largely left underwhelmed and disappointed by the reveal. Worse yet, the character’svisual look also came into question, which only added to the controversy. However, things have seemingly done a 180 after Joker’s reappearance at The Game Awards and then his first gameplay trailer earlier this month. Fan opinion has definitely changed as NetherRealm continues to show off more brutal content for the classic Batman villain.
Prior to Joker’sMortal Kombat 11debut next week, YouTuber NGSUPERMAN was able to capture the second fatality of character. Unlike the first one, this one involves the character singing to the tune of Pop Goes the Weasel, though ad libbing new lyrics into it. As he’s doing that, he takes out a massive boxing glove spring device to punch a large hole through his opponent’s chest. He then merrily skips along, places a jack in the box inside the hole, winds it up and the resulting pop makes the opponent’s head fly into the air.

While still brutal, this finisher is not quite as flashy as the first one which involved a classic Friendship callback before quickly turning into a violent fatality as one would expect. However, this jack in the box fatality remains true to the spirit of the character which toes the line between humor and ruthlessness.
The footage also shows off a new outfit for the character, something that has yet to really be detailed by NetherRealm outside of Joker’s classic purple suit look. This one features an orange pinstriped suit, which looks similar tothe Joaquin Phoenix version from the 2019 movie, though the rest of the outfit features an open scarf, orange shirt and a half clown mask that obscures his nose and eyes. With a large history to pull from wqith this character, many fans are hoping to see plenty of interesting outfit choices for the character, including a NetherRealm take on some classic skins such as the Killing Joke.
Naturally, this character is also bringing plenty of Easter eggs from DC Comics lore into the game as well. Not only does aDC Elseworlds skin pack launch on the same day, which turns Noob Saibot, Kitana, and Baraka into Batman inspired villains, but Joker himself has more than a few nods to the character in other media. Fans have already spotted a callback to The Dark Knight movie, where Joker struggles to get a detonator to work. The extend-o boxing glove spring is also a move taken fromMortal Kombat vs DC Universeand his fatal blow seems at least partially inspired by a classic comic book story line where Joker kills Jason Todd.
Mortal Kombat 11is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
