This gave one Redditor the idea to take Kitana’s outfit fromMortal Kombat 9and put their own personal spin on it, to great effect.
Kitana is likely one of the better knownMortal Kombatcharacters, having made her debut in 1993’sMortal Kombat 2.She has appeared in many of the video game and film titles, serving the plot as the princess daughter ofMortal Kombat’sprimary antagonist, Shao Kahn. The character is popularamongMortal Kombatcosplayers, perhaps due to the large variation in her costumes between titles and the uniqueness of her bladed fans as weapons.

The cosplay, posted by sophie_valentine on Reddit, is based on Kitana’sMortal Kombat 9costume, notable for being one of Kitana’s more revealing outfits and the subject of some criticism for being over-sexualized. Sophie_valentine does a good job of tweaking the costume to integrate some of the character’s previous looks, with the metallic blue color scheme harkening back toKitana’sMortal Kombat 2days, as opposed to the paler blue of theMK9outfit. The cosplay is well detailed, with components like Kitana’s knee-high boots being adorned with the pattern-work unique to theMK9costume, as well as the silver trimming on her arms and tiara.
The response to the cosplay was certainly varied, with much discussion occurring regarding the way in whichMortal Kombat 9handled its female characters. Kitana, Mileena, and Jade all wear the same skimpy outfit inMK9, and many have noted that these outfits don’t offer a huge amount of protection during battle. Fans generally seemed pleased with the high level of detail in sophie_valentine’s cosplay though, with some suggesting that the slight variations to the costume made it even better than the original.
While Kitana’s iconic fan blades aren’t pictured in the cosplay, it is still immediately obvious which character sophie_valentine is cosplaying, thanks to the variety of small details put into it. Despite theMK9costume being somewhat notorious for its skimpier look, this Reddit user has managed to bring the character back to her roots, with a design that seems to take inspiration from a variety of Kitana’s outfits fromvariousMortal Kombattitles.
