Despite being aSoulslike game,Mortal Shellintroduces a unique level-up process. The characters, aka Shells, do not level up. Instead, they recall their abilities and become stronger. How Does Mortal Shell’s Level-Up Work?

InMortal Shell, characters don’t have levels. What they have instead is a skill tree, item familiarity level, and weapon upgrade mechanism. Basically, to level up a Shell, players must learn new abilities, familiarize themselves with items, andbuy weapon upgrades.

Unlikegames likeDark Souls 3,Mortal Shellhas no stat-based upgrades. In other words, players can’t use their Glimpses and Tar (in-game currencies) for buffing specific stats, such as DPS or Stamina.

Ways to Upgrade Faster in Mortal Shell

To level up quickly, farm Glimpses, max out only two weapons, save Tar, and familiarize the Shells with items. Since the Tar and Glimpses are limited in each playthrough, use them sparingly. Otherwise, Shell level-ups will take longer.

Here are the best practices for faster max-out inMortal Shell.

1. Farm Glimpses in the Fallgrim Tower

Exploit the Thestus loop in the bell tower to gather as many Glimpses as possible. Upon meeting Thestus in the Fallgrim Tower, pay him one Glimpse to activate the fog. Then find and kill the two newly spawned Grishas in the nearby forest. Repeat the process to farm Glimpses.

2. Upgrade Only Two Weapons in the First Playthrough

Upgradingweapons require Quenching Acid, a limited and rare item. To make the most of them, spend them on two primary weapons in each playthrough. Experimenting with upgrades has major drawbacks, as the acids are not retrievable—once spent, there’s no way to get them back.

The best strategy for level-up acceleration is investing all the Quenching Acids of the first playthrough into upgrading the Hallowed Sword and Hammer And Chisel, two of thebest weapons inMortal Shell.

3. Don’t Waste too Many Glimpses on Shells

Pick only one Shell for each playthrough to fully upgrade. Because the resources are limited inMortal Shell, doing otherwise would have long-term disadvantages.

Tiel and Eredrim are among the best Shells to level up before others.

Each Shell requires 17,200 Tar and 107 Glimpses to max out. In total, players need 68,800 Tar and 428 Glimpses to upgrade all four Shells.

4. Prioritize Item Familiarity to Level Up Faster

Familiar items grant better rewards and quicken the level-up process. Glimpse items, for example, give more Glimpses when their familiarity level is at maximum.
