Summary
As a recurring antagonist inMy Hero Academia, Spinner has cemented himself amongthe League of Villains’upper echelons. His place as one of Shigaraki’s loyal followers has earned him All For One’s favor in the form of two new quirks to boost his strength. Spinner already possesses a quirk of his own called “Gekko,” yet this power has proven to be rather weak and futile in combat.
Supplementinghis Mutant-Type quirk, Spinner has received “Scalemail” and “Body Bulk,” two quirks that primarily enhance physical strength to a considerable degree. These quirks have deemed Spinner to be on par with some of the strongest characters inMy Hero Academia. However, this borrowed power is also accompanied by a number of crippling side effects, turning Spinner’s newfound power into a glaring weakness.

Spinner’s Original Quirk: Gecko
First Appearance
My Hero Academia, Episode 31, “The Aftermath of Hero Killer: Stain”
Debut Date

Spinner is already in possession of a quirk of his own known as Gecko. The quirk essentially grants him the abilities and appearance of a gecko. Since Gecko isa Heteromorphic quirk, the ability is the cause of his reptilian appearance. The quirk itself is quite weak, as it offers no significant powers other than allowing Spinner to cling to walls and other objects. It has been noted that Spinner’s adherence ability is strong enough for him to stick to fast-moving objects with ease.
However, Gecko is laced with weaknesses, though the primary drawback of the quirk is its simplicity. Granting nothing but the ability to stick to walls, Gecko can be somewhat weak in direct combat. Moreover, Spinner can only be useful in dense urban areas with buildings, meaning his quirk is essentially useless in open terrain. The quirk becomes even more of a downgrade considering it has brought Spinner nothing but hatred and prejudice due to his reptilian appearance.

Around there, I was known as the Lizard Freak. And I just accepted it! That whole time, my heart… was totally empty.
Spinner’s Newfound Powers
Spinner’s new powers directly stemfrom All For One, and while this “gift” is meant to boost Spinner’s powers, it also serves as a double-edged sword. Knowing the crippling side effects of possessing multiple quirks, it’s likely All For One granted the reptilian villain these powers simply to turn him into another one of his mindless soldiers.
I wanted to see what Shigaraki could pull off, the future he could craft. So who the hell are you? You’re not the person I chose to follow. My loyalty is to him, Tomura Shigaraki.

Spinner has always been a skeptic of All For One’s goals, which makes it all the more likely that these powers were granted to him with ill-intent. However, there’s no denying that possessing these new quirks hasgranted Spinner enough powerto go toe-to-toe with some of the strongest heroes out there.

As the name suggests, Body Bulk allows the user to enhance the muscles of their entire body, essentially increasing both size and strength. The quirk is similar to other powers witnessed before, such asMuscle Augmentation and Stress. The purpose of granting Spinner this quirk was to make him a viable asset in direct combat, since his original quirk rendered him useless as a fighter.
There aren’t any known side effects of Body Bulk itself, as the quirk merely boosts muscle strength and bulks up the user’s body. The only side effect witnessed was the mental debilitation that Spinner experienced while using the quirk. Since bearing multiple quirks is associated with a number of crippling drawbacks, using Body Bulk causes Spinner considerable mental strain.

Scalemail is the second quirk givento Spinner by All For One, with the purpose of supplementing the power of Body Bulk. The quirk allows the user to cover their entire body with metallic scales, leading to a dramatic increase in both defense and offense. The quirk perfectly complements Body Bulk, as using both quirks in conjunction results in an impenetrable defense.
However, Scalemail is fraught with debilitating side effects, at least in Spinner’s case, who already possesses two other quirks. The process of generating metallic scales results in the user’s skin rupturing and bleeding profusely, coupled with immense pain and physical strain. Moreover, the scales can easily be destroyed with a strong attack, meaning Scalemail isn’t potent enough to deter powerful offenses. Since Spinner isn’t the original user of the quirk, it’s likely that Scalemail’s futile nature is due to a lack of training.

How Strong Are Spinner’s New Powers?
Receiving two new quirks from All For One has certainly boosted Spinner’s strength, though it’s also pertinent to recognize the debilitating side effects these powers accompany.Body Bulk and Scalemailare powerful quirks in their own right, but using them simultaneously has resulted in more harm than good.
The most pronounced weakness of these quirks lies in the mental instability caused by their usage, as Spinner was left in a state of mental regression after using the quirks. However, this is likely due to using both Body Bulk and Scalemail at the same time, as neither his mind nor his body could withstand thedebilitating effects of possessing multiple quirks. Spinner’s new quirks may have granted him more power, yet their side effects have deemed him nothing but a mindless monster.

My Hero Academia
In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the “One-For-All” quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
