Black Adamwill star Johnson as the titular anti-hero, primed to impose his version of order and justice in the modern world after nearly 5,000 years of imprisonment. Leading up to the October release of the new film, DC Comics is laying a path for audiences to learn as much as possible aboutBlack Adamand the superhero ensemble he’ll cross paths with in a series of one-shot comic books calledBlack Adam: The Justice Society Files.

The comic books series will release a one-shot every month, profiling each member of the Justice Society of America and providing a backstory to explain thecharacters' connection toBlack Adamleading up to the film’s release. The first one-shot will center around Hawkman and will release on July 5th. Alongside the four comic book cover arts created by Kaare Andrews, DC Comics released variant covers portraying the actors playing the Justice Society of America characters in the newBlack Adamfilm.
Pierce Brosnan will suit up as the iconic Doctor Fate, alongside Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell’s Cyclone, and Noah Centineo’s Atom Smasher. The superhero ensemble will play an important role inBlack Adam, attempting to push the anti-hero away from a destructive path.The newly releasedBlack Adamtrailerprovided some additional hints regarding the characters' interactions, including an intense standoff between the titular anti-hero and Hawkman. However, most of these characters are new to some audiences, making the one-shot comic book series a treat for those hoping to learn more.
Brosnan’s Doctor Fate is a magic-based character known to be one of the most powerful magical characters in the DC Universe. Hodge’s Hawkman has the power of flight and other enhanced elements, such as his rapid speed and strength. Swindell’s Cyclone possesses the power of wind manipulation, which allows her to create tornados and other destructive storms while equally using the wind for various defensive and offensive purposes. Finally,Centineo’s Atom Smasherhas strength and the ability to alter his molecular structure, which allows him to grow in size to combat several different foes.
It’ll be interesting to see how these characters are introduced in the upcoming film, and how their roles and connections toBlack Adamwill be explored. As the months go on, more will surface from the new DC film, but it’s clear that fully understanding the Justice Society of America will be a critical component to establish for audiences moving forward. The new posters don’t reveal much of their story, but at least audiences are being treated with a glimpse of these characters in their heroic forms.
