In December 2019,Borderlands 3Patch 5 finally made it possible for fans toskipBL3’s intro cutscene– a feature that many players had been requesting ever since the title’s release in September. Now, it seems that Gearbox Software may be intending to take this time-saving concept even further, as a recently discoveredBorderlands 3cinematic suggests that players may eventually be able to bypass a sizable portion of the game’s opening moments.

Initially shared by Reddit user z_3ph1r on the officialBorderlands 3subreddit, thisBL3cutscene, which was found in the game files, begins with Marcus Kincaid directly addressing the player, saying, “So, you want to skip some story.” The cinematic then fast forwards, eventually landing on an image of Sanctuary 3, which Marcus gives some context to with the following statement: “Let’s get to the part where you’ve got a spaceship of your own and a galaxy just waiting to be looted.”

This seems to imply that Gearbox is indeed planning to eventually allow players to skip everything up to the point where they gain access toBorderlands 3’s Sanctuary 3, and this is something that is likely to excite fans that are interested in pursuing multiple playthroughs of the game. For full clarity, this could mean skipping up to four ofBL3’s introductory chapters, giving players more immediate access to their banks and beyond.

That said, this feature has not been officially confirmed by the developer, and it should thus be considered speculative at this point. Furthermore, some fans theorize that this cutscene may actually be in place for the instance that a Level 1 character attempts to join a Vault Hunter that has already entered theBorderlands 3Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot DLC, though that has also not been verified at this time.

However, if the new cutscene does ultimately point to a forthcoming skip feature, the question then becomes what players will have access to it. The most likely answer is perhaps that the feature will only be available to those fans that have completed theBorderlands 3campaign, but it is also possible that Gearbox is planning for it to be more widely accessible. Whatever the case may be, hopefully more definitive information on the meaning of the new cinematic is confirmed in short order.

Borderlands 3is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
