CNNobtained the official sheriff’s report. It revealed that afterRenner used the snow plow to pull the truck, “the Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding, causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake.” The sheriff’s office confirmed that the snow plow did have some mechanical issues, in which the “brake indicator light was not functioning.” However, after their mechanical inspection, they believe that “the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward.”

After the snow plow began to slide, Renner exited the cab, only to realize that it was heading towards his nephew. To avoid any injuries to his nephew, Renner “decided to attempt to stop or divert the Pistenbully.” He had to climb onto its moving track and was “immediately pulled under the left side track” and got run over. Renner’s nephew was able to alert the authorities, and the 911 call log revealed that Renner was “completely crushed under a large snowcat (vehicle)” and had “extreme (difficulty) breathing,” with “the right side of his chest … collapsed” and “upper torso [was] crushed.”

The sheriff’s report confirms that “impairment was not believed to be a factor in the incident.” Renner’s nephew was able to help him until “medical personnel arrived.” In an Instagram post afterRenner was released from the hospital, the actor revealed he had broken more than 30 bones in the incident. TheHawkeyestar shared an image of his post-injury rehab and a heartfelt note for his fans. “These 30-plus broken bones will mend, grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens,” he wrote.
