Summary
Ghost of Tsushimais Sucker Punch Productions' open-world samurai title set in Feudal Japan during the Mongol invasion. Released in 2020, it follows the epic tale of Jin Sakai, a loyal vassal to the Shogun who eventually turns away from his code to combat the threat to his homeland on his own terms.Ghost of Tsushima’s beautifully designed recreation of the period along with its tight mechanics and well-crafted story made it one of the must-play PlayStation titles. Since then, fans have been wondering about how (and when) the next leg of the journey may continue.
With some developers increasingly focusing on producing half-sequels, Sucker Punch could do the same. And there is a character who would be an excellent choice to feature as the protagonist of a possible half-sequel.Ghost of Tsushima’s Yunahad an extremely important part in its plot, and her story was left open-ended at the conclusion. If a half-sequel does materialize, Yuna is already in a great spot to be set up as its main character.

Although neither a full nor half-sequel toGhost of Tsushimahas been officially confirmed, it’s openly assumed Sucker Punch is currently developing a follow-up in some manner.
Ghost of Tsushima’s Yuna is the Perfect Fit for a Half-Sequel
The Rise of PlayStation First-Party Half-Sequels
AfterMiles Moralesbridged the gap between a sequel toMarvel’s Spider-Manbut not quite a full sequel in the series, it’s rumored that others likeGod of War Ragnarokand theHorizonseries might get half-sequels. While still a burgeoning development, the idea and practice of half-sequels seem to be on the rise and set to continue if such rumors are true. If so, this would present a good opportunity then for Sucker Punch to follow suit and showcase Yuna in one.
Jin And Yuna’s Partnership
Yuna played a big role in theplot ofGhost of Tsushimaand was one of Jin’s most loyal companions at every step. It was Yuna who rescued Jin following the game’s opening battle. After the Shogun’s forces were defeated by the Khan’s army, Yuna helped tend Jin’s wounds and nurse him back to health before he began his journey to becoming the Ghost.
As they became close compatriots, Yuna also helped show Jin a side of himself that allowed him to embrace his identity as the Ghost. Along the way, she taught him many of her tricks as a master thief and highly competent strategist, which he incorporated into his methods. Yun’s assistance was vital for Jin and his allies in fending off the invasion.
Yuna’s Role in a Half-Sequel
While thenext chapter ofGhost of Tsushima’s storyis unclear at this point, there are a few avenues left open for Yuna. She had her own deeply personal story alongside Jin’s. Her brother, Taka, was killed during their efforts, and this almost sent her down the same spiral as Jin. He returned the favor by providing emotional support, helping her realize her potential to prevent the same from happening to others.
At the end ofGoT, the pair have halted the Mongol menace on the island, but the mainland remains under threat. They part ways, with Yuna stating that with Jin’s legend secured she must now seek her own way in the world. It seems natural forGhost of Tsushima 2’s settingto shift to the mainland; parallel to that, a half-sequel could focus on Yuna’s adventures as she continues down her path, wherever that may lead. As she strives to protect those who cannot protect themselves, it could possibly set the stage for her to reunite with Jin in a full sequel.
