Sindragosa Is One of World of Warcraft’s Most Tragic Villains

The story of Sindragosa begins as a member of the Blue Dragonflight, consort to its Aspect, Malygos the Spell-Weaver. WhenDeathwing betrayed all of dragonkind10,000 years ago, he set off a weapon known as the Dragon Soul. The resulting explosion tore the Black Aspect’s body apart, but the blue dragons suffered the worst of it. Malygos tried to shield his brethren with magic, but in an instant nearly every blue dragon was hit, including Sindragosa.

Theblast from the Dragon Soulflung her far away to the icy glaciers atop Northrend. She lay there dying, crying out for Malygos or any of her brethren to rescue her, but no one did. Sindragosa died a slow and lonely death, her body encased in ice for millennia until Arthas raised her with his runeblade, twisted with grief and rage. She was one of the Lich King’s most powerful soldiers, but she too fell beneath the onslaught of Azeroth’s heroes.

Kalecgos, the newAspect of the Blue Dragonflight, sought a way to rebuild his family, learning valuable lessons throughout the Azure Span in Dragonflight. When he finds the Azure Oathstone, a relic that represents the Blue Dragonflight’s promise to guard Azeroth’s magic, a figure approaches him. Players soon realize that this is the visage of Sindragosa, as all dragons are capable of choosing a mortal form to make interactions with other mortals easier.

Kalecgos realizes that this is not the real Sindragosa, simply a magical incarnation of her consciousness left behind to guard the Oathstone. This version of Sindragosa was saddened to hear of what happened to both her and her beloved consort, Malygos, and ultimately helps Kalecgos restore the Azure Oathstone, giving players insight into the real personality of one of theIcecrown Citadel’s most iconic villains.

World of Warcraft: Dragonflightintroduced an old character that pulls on players’ heartstrings, but the fact that Kalecgos accepted her wisdom and aid means that her legacy is not tarnished forever. Sindragosa’s knowledge and dedication have impacted the Blue Dragonflight in the present time, and will carry on as Kalecgos rebuilds the flight to its former glory.

That being said, Sindragosa is still remembered by many as the tyrannical frost wyrm that brought mayhem and terror to the Lich King’s enemies. Her being raised from thedead in Wrath of the Lich King’s trailer cinematic remains a stunning visual feast. Her piercing screams of fury can be experienced by players in bothWorld of WarcraftandWorld of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic, where she soars above the black skies of Icecrown, filled with bitter anguish.
