Overwatch 2’s newest support hero Lifeweaver could be seeing some important quality of life changes to his somewhat cumbersome kit. The 37th hero recently joined theOverwatch 2roster as part of the new Season 4 and has already become a fan favorite despite player complaints about some abilities that have the potential to cause some grief among teammates and clunky controls.
Lifeweaver has a very complicated kit with a lot of abilities to keep track of. His Petal Platform acts as an elevator, allowing him and his team to claim high ground, a Rejuvenating Dash heals him while providing added survivability, andLife Grip controversially lets him pull a teammate to his position pretty much against their will, which was the biggest cause for concern from players. Additionally, Lifeweaver’s ultimate has him plant a massive tree that heals allies and also acts as a barrier of sorts. On top of all this, many players feel that swapping between his primary healing and Thorn Volley damage is clunky, since it requires players on console to stop moving and swap the “weapons” with a d-pad input much like Mercy’s pistol and Torbjorn’s hammer.

Overwatch 2’s game director Aaron Keller hopped on Twitter to confirm that the team is taking a look at Lifeweaver’s weapon swap and Rejuvenating Dash to make the experience of playing the support hero smoother overall. The dash ability lets players move a bit farther if airborne but many players have been wanting the ability to be tied to thejump input like Hanzo’s lunge. He didn’t give a time frame for these changes yet nor did he elaborate on exactly what the changes will be.
Compared to heroes like Mercy or Torbjorn, Lifeweaver players need to use their weapon swap between healing and Thron Volley much more frequently. Players almost never useTorbjorn’s hammer to repair turrets since they can be shut down so quickly, and aside from the half-serious Battle Mercy players, Mercy rarely ever needs her pistol as long as she’s with her team. Lifeweaver, on the other hand, needs to swap to Thorn Volley when his team is full on health to get some supplemental damage in or to help pressure a shield. Tighter brawl scenarios, like on a control map for example, can be even more hectic for Lifeweaver players who are more likely to catch the wrath of an opposing player in such close proximity.
While fans seem to adore the character, many would agree thatLifeweaver’s abilities could use some fine-tuning to mitigate trolling potentialand make the experience of playing him much smoother. Players who’ve been struggling with the thorn-slinger’s weapon swap won’t have to for too much longer; it will be interesting to see exactly what form these changes will take and how long after the hero’s launch they’ll arrive.
Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
