The games are home to some of the wackiest characters in the entirePokemonfranchise, and also home to some of the most beautiful locations in the series too. 5Agate Village, Population: 19

Agate Village is a village centered in a lush forest, near a huge waterfall that flows underneath a nearby bridge. The village is serene and peaceful, and it’s home to mostly elderly residents who retired there with their aging Pokemon. The village makes an appearance in bothPokemon ColiseumandPokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, but there are different items and trainers spread around. InPokemon XD: Gale of Darknessit appears that the village is more populated with elderly people than before, as there are far more interactable older folk in this version of Orre.

4The Under, Population: 28

The Under is a city only accessible inPokemon Coliseum, and it’s not a place you want to spend a lot of time in. The Under is located beneath Pyrite Town and serves as a Cipher-controlled zone that connects to the world above in a number of locations. It’s a hostile place for the player, rife withtrainers looking to fight, but it wasn’t always a rough area to be in.

Back in the day, miners in Pyrite Town were looking for a place to stay that was between the deep mines of the town and the town itself – it takes a long time to crawl back out of the earth after every shift, after all. The town build The Under as a temporary living space for the local miners, but it eventually became a permanent place to live for many miners. When Cipher came in, the town’s residents didn’t move, so it’s full of older miners as well as the young ruffian antagonists.

3Pyrite Town, Population: 32

Pyrite Town is the gritty, rusty town that the player helped to liberate inPokemon Coliseum. InPokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, the town is a tightly-knit community of thugs and ruffians who turned to a life of crime following the loss of the Shadow Pokemon trade. The town is unique among earlyPokemontowns for its grungey appearance and vaguely hostile populace.

The area is connected to The Under in three locations, and also is home to the Pyrite Coliseum, one of the first Coliseums the player will come across in their Orre adventure (Orreventure? Eh…) Thepopulace once made moneyfrom the mining operations underneath The Under, but once miners made a new permanent residence underground, they had to turn to other means for their local economy. For aPokemontown, Pyrite Town is surprisingly complex.

2Phenac City, Population: 34

Phenac City is a city built around a desert oasis in the south of the Orre region. The desert is a hard place to create a settlement, and the walls that surround the city help to defend the population against constant dust storms and buffeting winds. The city not only has a simple layout and a very visually appealing design, but it’s also got an interesting history.

The city was founded by the current Mayor’s grandfather when they redirected a vast supply of water to the desolate location, according to an NPC in the city. The fountain at the head of the town that covers the Phenac Stadium is actually the same water brought to the city all those years ago. The water nowadays is mostly used to show off the city’s vast reserves, hence why waterfalls grace the sides of the Stadium whenplayers battle Pokemon inside.

1Gateon Port, Population: 47

Gateon Port is unique toPokemon XD: Gale of Darknessand is the most populous city in either game. It has the most interactable NPCs, the most homes, and the most space to explore. Plus, being a harbor town lends itself to airy music and warm, comforting beach visuals. The area is located in the North of Orre, and is home to a lot of sailors, traders, andthe only Herb shopthe player can visit in all the Orre region.

The highlight of the zone is the giant crab looming over the port. This giant crab is The Krabby Club, a bar where magicians, two Krabbys, or the antagonist Miror B. perform on-stage. The Krabby Club is the only place to learn the friendship level of Pokemon, too, in a VIP room on the second floor. Gateon Port is also home to the Machine Parts shop, where the player spends a fair bit of time during the main storyline.
