The box art for mainlinePokemongames has changed over the years. The first Generation in the franchise showcased the final evolutions of the starter pocket monsters and changed to the featured legendary in the second Generation. Just like the games, thecover art forPokemontitles has evolved while keeping many aspects the same.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill feature the legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon on their covers, keeping the trend of the box art for aPokemongame featuring the main legendary in that entry. However, one fan of the RPG series imagined what the cover art would look like if it used the recently announced Cyclizar as the focus pocket monster instead.

A Redditor known as VAC7 posted an image of art that they made featuring the Dragon/Normal-TypeCyclizar as the featured Pokemonon box art. The artist drew the work in the style of the first Generation of the series, with the creature being surrounded by the words “The Pocket Monster Trainer” referring back to the original name of the franchise instead of the more known shortened version, “Pokemon.” The box features a green color theme, and shows Cyclizar in washed out colors. VAC7’s piece harkens back to the start of Nintendo’s series, bringing up a sense of nostalgia for those who playedPokemonall those years ago.
VAC7’s artwork has gained a few fans. One commenter stated that they would wear the piece on a leather jacket, while another mentioned that they preferred the name “Pocket Monsters” over “Pokemon.” A user said that the Biker trainer class needs to make a return and that they should ride aroundPokemon Scarlet and Violet’sPaldea regionchallenging players. The artwork that VAC7 created is a great way to celebratePokemon’spast while also looking towards the future.
VAC7 is just one artist creating works based on classic box art. A Redditor named CoffeeRacoon took thePokemon Koraidon and Miraidonand put them on Game Boy Color boxes. Each cover has their respective pocket monster and displayed them over a background that matches the color of their version, with Miraidon having a purple background while Koraidon has a red one. CoffeeRacoon also washed out the colors of both creatures, going back to how the artwork of the older games was done. Like the Cyclizar cover, CoffeeRacoon’s work does a great job of looking back to the early days ofPokemonwhile also staring ahead at the upcoming entries in the series.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill release for the Nintendo Switch on November 18.
