APokemon GOplayer has discovered that the E form of Unown has a unique way of “wearing” the Best Buddy ribbon that is earnable in the game. Unown were introduced inPokemon GOin 2017 with the introduction of the Johto-region Pokemon and are some of the rarest ones in the augmented reality game, having an extremely low spawn rate in the wild. Players have thebest chance of capturing an Unownduring special occasions like the Psychic Spectacular Event if they want to make one of the rare critters their buddy.
A player can select a Pokemon and assign them as their main partner as they go about their various adventures in the game. A trainer with aBuddy Pokemon can gain several benefits, such as earning more candy as the player walks a certain distance. If the trainer continually participates in activities such as taking photos with the Buddy, feeding them, and walking them, the Pokemon will eventually “level up” and become a Best Buddy. While it is a time-consuming task, getting a Pokemon to Best Buddy status can give them a CP boost, making them more potent in Raids and battles, and also earn a coveted ribbon, symbolizing the bond between trainer and Pokemon.

One user going by the handle Valiancia posted a screenshot in thePokemon GOsubreddit showcasing the E form of Unown wearing or, rather, not wearing the Best Buddy ribbon. Instead of having it pinned to its body like most Pokemon, the rare critter has the ribbon floating next to its head, making it look more like an asterisk. Though faint, the ribbon’s shadow can be seen floating next to the Unown’s, which suggests that while it is notone of the best Psychic Pokemonin the game, it is using its supernatural abilities to keep the prize in place.
Valiancia’s post prompted otherPokemon GOplayers to discuss and share their findings on how Pokemon, including the other Unown forms, wear the Best Buddy ribbon. Notably, one user said that the Question Mark form displays the ribbon floating just above the bottom dot, with the T form also having the ribbon next to its head. When asked why they went through the drawn-out process of making an Unown their Best Buddy since, although rare, it is weak in battle, Valiancia said they “have always liked them,” and the E form is one of their favorites.
