Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC will explore Unova’s Blueberry Academy, with a trial set by the BB League to help cement its approach to battle studying. Based on trailer footage shown thus far, it’s clear that each of the BB League’s four members have strong personalities and designs that are likely to correspond with the typing of their teams. Because of this, a few predictions can be made on their team formations to help preparePokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers for the challenge.

The Indigo Disk’s BB Leaguecomprises four students from the Blueberry Academy: Lacey, Crispin, Amarys, and Drayton. Each of these opponents shows much of their personality through appearance alone, like Crispin’s red hair pointing towards a fiery disposition, or Amarys' rigid posture a steadfast approach. This will almost certainly influence their type specialties in battle, where each member’s team formations could include a few Unovan and Paldean reps among the DLC’s roster of additional returning Pokemon from past titles.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk BB League Could Focus on Fairy, Fire, Steel, and Dragon Types

To start, Lacey looks to be the first opponent that the player will battle along their BB League challenge. Much of her character design points toward a focus onFairy Types, though this could stretch out to include Normal Types as well. Alcremie seems like an apt partner Pokemon for her, while Gen 5 representatives like Whimsicott or Cinccino could help to round out her team. Interestingly, the embellishments on her cardigan look almost like pink fins, which could work for her having a Pokemon like Alomomola or Finneon, which may even suggest a focus on Water Types fitting of the Academy’s location.

Crispin looks to deal with Fire Pokemon, though it will be interesting to see if each member’s team varies out with some of its typing. Fire Types like Camerupt or Talonflame could be prime contenders for his team, while others could serve as Paldean representation. Becausethe Blueberry Academystudents are likely to trade with those visiting from Paldea, a Pokemon like Scovillain would be a great representative that fits in with the theme of cooking, acting as a potential partner Pokemon for the character. His fiery temper could branch out to include Fighting Types as well, with the potential for a Paldean Tauros in its Blaze breed to be featured.

Amarys will almost certainly deal with Steel Pokemon, though this could branch out to include Psychic Types as well. The pseudo-Legendary Metagross seems like a prime contender for her partner Pokemon, whose dual Steel/Psychic typing would correspond well with her character design. Pokemon like Skarmory and Magnezone could also allow for some more type diversity through Steel/Flying and Steel/Electric respectively, while others like Bastiodon and Excadrill could give some Rock and Ground coverage, with the latter providing Unovan representation.Gothitelle could be a compelling additionas a pure Psychic Type, though it’s unclear if her team will be Steel-focused only.

Drayton’s team will certainly be Dragon-focused, with speculation rising overthe character’s connection to Drayden of Opelucid City’s Gym. One Pokemon of his team has already been confirmed: Archaludon, an evolution of Galar’s Duraludon with Dragon/Electric typing. If the character is in fact related to Drayden, then it’s likely that Flygon and Haxorus will be included in his team as well. It would be interesting to see him have a Paldean rep like Baxcalibur to show the bridging between the two regions, though there are plenty of other Dragon options like Altaria, Hydreigon, and Salamence, the three of which rounded out Drayden’s team in the Unova Leaders Tournament.
