Pokemon Scarlet and Violethave crossed an important sales milestone, selling more units in eight weeks thanPokemon Sword and Shielddid in three years. The popularity ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetis as strong as ever and could turn these games into some of the best-selling titles in the series.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetare the latest entries in the Pokemon series, taking the franchise to the Spain-inspired region of Paldea. On top of adding103 new Pokemon for trainers to capture,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetfeature an open-world setting and three different stories filled with their own quests. These titles also bring their share of new features, from auto battles to the Terastal phenomenon and co-op for up to four players.

Japanese game sales database Game Data Library shared a graph showing the total retailsales ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetin Japan. In eight weeks, the latest Pokemon games sold more units than their predecessors,Sword and Shield, in three years. Since their release in November 2022,Pokemon Scarlet and Violethave sold over 6 million copies in Japan, including both physical and digital sales.

Upon their release,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetachieved the biggest game launch in Japan, selling over four million units in less than a week. In three days,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetsurpassed the lifetime sales ofPokemon Legends: Arceus, the semi-open world game set before the events ofPokemon Diamond and Pearl. Eight weeks after their original release, the sales ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetare still going strong, turning this new opus into one of the fastest-selling games in Japan.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetsold more units in eight weeks thanPokemon Black and White,Animal Crossing: New Horizons, andPokemon Gold and Silverdid in the same time frame.

Despite their popularity and incredible sales numbers,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetsuffer from various technical issues. Players have shared clips showing their character clipping into a cave wall, NPCs vanishing into a staircase, or creatures appearing distorted. A glitch evenpreventedPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers from completing gym challenges, which are one of the main goals of these games.

Nintendo and Game Freak announced an upcoming patch to fix most of the bugs plaguing the user experience.Update 1.2 forPokemon Scarlet and Violetwill address technical issues and add new functionality, with no further details as to what it entails. This new patch will be available for all players in late February, with more information about its contents hopefully coming out before this date.
