Pokemon Scarlet & Violetplayers have a lot of bug Pokemon to choose from. There are returning favorites like Heracross and Vespiquen, along with newcomers like Rabsca. Not all of them are equally viable, however.
One of the more interesting choices is Masquerain. The Water-Bug-type Pokemon has a distinctive look that stands apart from other alternatives inPokemon Scarlet & Violet, with a better move set than other bug Pokemon. But how do players catch it? And does it actually hold up well in different battle formats?

Where to Catch Surskit in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Pokemon Scarlet & Violetplayers can catch Surskit in South Province Areas One, Two, and Five. The Pokemon can most often be found skittering on or walking around rivers. Here is its habitat page in the Paldea Pokedex:
Alongside this, players have a chance of finding it in one-star Tera Raid battles. Players will most likely have a much easier time searching for one in the wild than rolling the dice on Tera Raid battles.

How to Evolve Surskit
Surskit evolves into Masquerain by raising it up to level 22. The Pokemon simply needs to be raised up to that level, and it will start to evolve, with no evolution stones or special items like Razor Claw required.
Players don’t have to actually raise a Surskit to get a Masquerain. The Pokemon can be caught in the wild in South Province Areas One and Four. It also has a chance of appearing in four-star Tera Raid battles. Players can’t count on it appearing in Tera Raid battles though, so catching one or evolving a Surskit is the best way to register it to the Pokedex.

Is Masquerain a Good Pokemon?
Unfortunately, Masquerain doesn’t hold up well in any battle format inPokemon Scarlet & Violet. It doesn’t have the stats or moves to perform particularly well in the story mode, ranked battles, or Tera Raid battles.
Surskit evolves into Masquerain at level 22, which is more in line with a Pokemon like Kilowattrel than something like Beedrill; its stats and typing ultimately keep it more in line with its fellow throwaway bug Pokemon.
Masquerain doesn’t have the stats to hold up well, lacks any kind of unique move or ability, and doesn’t have particularly good typing. All this combines to leave Masquerain struggling in mid or late-game fights for badges, ranked matches, orhigh-level Tera Raid battles. Players are best served by raising a Surskit to Masquerain and then boxing it rather than committing to it long-term.
