Now thatPokemon SwordandPokemon Shieldhave had a staggeringly successful launch, Game Freak is ready to start expanding the games' post-launch content, as indicated by an announcement that was made just today. This announcement simultaneously confirmedPokemon SwordandShield’s next event and revealed a brand new Gigantamax Pokemon, Gigantamax Snorlax, who will be debuting in the new season of thePokemonanime and in this event.

Starting on December 4,Pokemon SwordandPokemon Shieldplayers will have their first chance at catching a Gigantamax Snorlax, who is appropriately depicted in a sleeping position with its head on the ground. Atop its belly is an entire park, with bushes, grass, a berry tree, and a path running down the middle, which is a whole new look for Snorlax and differentiates thisGigantamax Pokemonfrom its Dynamax counterpart.

Gigantamax Snorlax will be available exclusively throughPokemon SwordandShieldMax Raid Battles, which means that players will need to challenge as many Max Raid Battles as possible in order to find one. Between December 4 and January 5, Gigantamax Snorlax will have an increased chance of being one of the Max Raid Battle spawns, but it’s unclear if Gigantamax Snorlax will be fully unavailable or just more difficult to find after the event comes to a conclusion.

To note, this isn’t the first Gigantamax Pokemon event that has come toPokemon SwordandShieldsince its launch. To coincide withPokemon Sword and Shield’s release, Game Freak initiated an event that increased Max Raid Battle spawn chances forGigantamax Butterfree, Drednaw, and Corviknightin the Wild Area. This event is active through January 2020, and Drednaw’s increased spawn rate is exclusive toPokemon Sword, while Corviknight’s is exclusive toPokemon Shield.

Both the Gigantamax Snorlax event and the Gigantamax Butterfree, Drednaw, and Corviknight events will be occurring simultaneously after December 4, and players will simply have to venture into the Wild Area in hopes of finding these rare Pokemon. Additionally, these events are certain to be just the start ofGame Freak’s plans for post-launchPokemon SwordandShieldsupport, and the developer is likely to share more information about what comes next in short order.
