Summary

To the surprise of most fans,Pokemon Legends: Z-Awas recently announced. This game will be a new entry in the belovedPokemon Legendssubseries in which players will be able to explore the Kalos region as they witness the construction of Lumiose City, a beautiful place in which humans and Pokemon can coexist in peace.

But the most exciting part of this announcement was the confirmation thatMega Evolutionis going to return to the mainline games after a 6-year absence. This has always been one of the most popular mechanics in the franchise, especially since it can improve many weaker or forgotten creatures. There are some Pokemon from the Kalos Pokedex that are in dire need of a Mega Evolution, andPokemon Legends: Z-Ais their best chance.

Nidoking and Nidoqueen together in the Pokemon anime.

10Nidoking & Nidoqueen

No matter the game, Generation One Pokemon always get something new. So it’s most likelyPokemon Legends: Z-Awill feature Mega Evolutions of different Kanto Pokemon, which means that this would be the perfect opportunity to give something to two of the most beloved creatures in that region.

NidokingandNidoqueenhaveincredible kaiju-like designs, a solid type combination, and a great distribution of stats that take advantage of their diverse movepool, but they were left behind in the newer generations. This is the perfect chance to make them even more powerful while also giving them new designs in the process.

The Original Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon

Every pseudo-legendary Pokemon from Generations Two to Six was graced with an additional form after their initial appearance, whether it was a Mega Evolution, a Paradox form, or both. Weirdly enough, however, the very firstpseudo-legendary Pokemonever made,Dragonite, never got the same treatment.

Pokemon Legends: Z-Awould be the ideal opportunity to finally give Dragonite the Mega Evolution it rightfully deserves. Of course, this is already a strong Pokemon, so there wouldn’t be a need to change its stats very much. But there’s a lot of potential for Mega Dragonite’s design to be something truly beautiful and special.

Goh’s Flygon flying in the desert.

It Was Supposed To Mega Evolve 10 Years Ago

It’s a known fact thatFlygonwas supposed toget a Mega EvolutioninPokemon X and Y, but it was scrapped because Ken Sugimori was experiencing artist’s block. Because of this, fans have been begging for this Pokemon to get one for several years. And many seePokemon Legends: Z-Aas the perfect excuse to finally correct this mistake.

Flygon has always been a fascinating Pokemon because, despite its typing and design, it’s technically not a pseudo-legendary, and it’s nowhere near as strong as other fully evolved Dragon-types. So, it is actually in need of an upgrade that would make it even more viable in battle. The designers could also play around with Flygon’s bug-like elements.

Generation Five Needs Some Mega Evolutions

Since Audino is currently the only Pokemon from Unova that is able to Mega Evolve, many fans have been asking for this mechanic to be implemented on other belovedGeneration Five monsters. And, luckily, one of the most popular ones is present within the Kalos Pokedex: The Intimidation Pokemon:Krookodile.

As a bipedal crocodile with black membranes that emulate the sunglasses of a cool criminal, Krookodile has a unique design, but it is held back by its mediocre stats. If it could get a Mega Evolution that would enhance its design and make it even stronger, it could become one of the most used Pokemon in the entire game.

A wild Druddigon attacking other Pokemon.

The Forgotten Dragon

The Unova region is home to some amazing dragons, like Haxorus or Hydreigon. But there is another one that almost nobody remembers:Druddigon, a singular Dragon-type Pokemon that doesn’t evolve from or into anything. Because of this, it would be the perfect candidate for a new Mega Evolution.

Since its base stats are a bit lower than most fully evolved Dragon-types, Mega Druddigon could get a favorable stat increase that would make it more useful without necessarily breaking the game. And, considering it’s partially inspired by gargoyles, this Mega Evolution’s new design has the potential to be something awesome that would perfectly fit in Kalos.

Wikstrom’s Aegislash in its Shield Form.

5Aegislash

The Return Of Kalos’ Strongest Warrior

Despite Mega Evolution being originally introduced in Kalos, no Pokemon from this region had one inPokemon X and Y, and only Diancie would get one later inOmega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. to finally fix this,Pokemon Legends: Z-Ashould definitely introduce a bunch of exciting Kalos Mega Evolutions.

And there’s no better choice for this thanAegislash. This used to be the king of competitive battling back in the day, mostly thanks to its signature ability,Stance Change. But Aegislash sadly got hit witha few harsh nerfsin subsequent releases, so it could definitely use a boost via Mega Evolution. On top of that, ifPokemon Legends: Z-Ais actually set in the past, Game Freak could do something really creative with its sword and shield concept.

Ash’s Hawlucha, standing proudly before battle.

4Hawlucha

Hawluchais one of many Pokemon that, design-wise, always looked like they should’ve evolved at some point, but it doesn’t really need to since it has the solid stats of a fully evolved Pokemon. A Mega Evolution would be a clever way to fix this since it has already happened in the past with monsters like Mawile and Sableye.

Mega Hawlucha could look truly incredible, especially if it has even more elements from its Mexican luchador and Aztec cultural inspirations. A huge Flying and Fighting Pokemon with even higher stats that hits every opponent with Flying Press would be a force to be reckoned with.

A mischievous wild Klefki in the Pokemon anime.

3Klefki

Unconventional Pokemon Need Mega Evolutions, Too

Because of its odd yet creative design that’s based on a keychain,Klefkihas always been considered one of theoddballs of the Kalos region. But this is exactly why it should get a Mega Evolution inPokemon Legends: Z-A. If the designers take its keychain elements to another level, Mega Klefki could end up looking extremely unique.

Klefki not only stands out because of its unconventional appearance but also because of the way it is commonly used in battle. This is an excellent support Pokemon thanks to its move pool, its stats, and the Prankster ability. Its Mega Evolution would definitely be even more annoying when used against newer players.

The Knight Of Kalos Needs An Upgrade

If there’s a group of Pokemon from Kalos that must get Mega Evolutions inPokemon Legends: Z-A, it’s definitelythe trio of Starter Pokemon, with the Grass representative,Chesnaught, needing one the most, as it never really had a presence in the competitive scene.

This is a physically strong Grass and Fighting-type Pokemon with a practical signature move, so it would most likely become one of the most powerful monsters in the game if it got a Mega Evolution that could fix its shortcomings. In addition to that, Chesnaught is based on the knight character class in classic role-playing games, meaning that this concept could be further elevated in a game that’s set in a past version of Kalos.

Aria’s Delphox shows off its fire wand.

1Delphox

The Mage Of Kalos Needs An Upgrade

Similarly, the Fire-type Starter Pokemon from Kalos,Delphox, should also get a Mega Evolution. Despite the fact that it was initially praised by fans for being the first Fire and Psychic-type starter in the franchise, it never really had the stats to justify its popularity.

A Mega Delphox would also be incredible, and since it’s based on the mage character class from the RPG genre, it would fit the setting ofPokemon Legends: Z-Aperfectly. Though Greninja could use a Mega Evolution as well, it already has itspowerful Ash-Greninja form, so it’s not as urgent or necessary as it is with the other two starter Pokemon.
