In yet another confusing cross-generation upgrade situation, the PlayStation 5 version ofUncharted 4: A Thief’s Endwill only be available for certain versions of the game. The improved PS5 version, offering remastered visuals and save data import, is only an option for players who already own the retail version of the PS4 game.
TheUnchartedseries started on the PS3 and has since become a respected series iconic to modern PlayStation systems, taking series protagonist Nathan Drake on adventures around the world. TheUncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collectionpackages both of the PS4Unchartedgames together, but starting today players can also upgrade their already owned PS4 versions to theLegacy of Thieves Collectionversions for $10.

TheUncharted 4situation parallels when Square Enix would not allow players toupgradeFinal Fantasy 7 Remaketo its improved version, a decision that was reversed a year later. At the moment it remains unclear whether the same will happen for the PS4Unchartedgames, though it is a distinct possibility.
While theUncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collectionimproves graphical fidelity, it is, unfortunately, lacking the multiplayer that the PS4 version ofUncharted 4includes. It may not be a major issue for some players, but it’s still a glaring omission and one that will hopefully be resolved with an update later on. While the multiplayer may not be the most beloved aspect ofUncharted 4, it is still well-liked by some players, and removing it means the game has objectively less content than its now-outdated iteration.
PlayStation 5 owners may be frustrated, but those who have had trouble finding the consoles in the ongoing shortage may not need to worry. APC version ofUncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collectionis also in development and will hopefully meet the PS5 version’s level of quality. TheUnchartedseries coming to PC will also finally provide non-PlayStation owners with the opportunity to experience Nathan Drake’s journeys for the first time.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collectionlaunches for PS5 on June 27, 2025, and a PC version will be released later in 2022.
