Rabbit and Steel, the unique roguelite inspired by theelaborate boss battles from MMORPG raids, gives players a wide variety of ways to customize their characters, including powerful class-specific ability upgrades, and synergistic item drops. The random nature of roguelites, however, can often prevent players from obtaining all the pieces for the perfect build, and can make experimenting with different combinations an exercise in patience, waiting for the stars to align to get a chance at testing specific interactions.

A recent update looks to alleviate these issues by implementing Toybox Mode, a sandbox allowing players to test different class, ability, and item combinations against a dummy target. While Toybox Mode will allow players to easily concoct new build ideas and test them out without needing to obtain all the components in a real run, it comes with a few restrictions that players looking to take full advantage of the new feature will need to keep in mind.

How To Unlock Toybox Mode

In order to unlock Toybox Mode, players must firstunlock all 5 hidden classes, as well asall 10 locked item sets. Every unlockable class and item set has a specific challenge associated with it, although players looking to skip the challenge can alternatively unlock them by simply defeating a certain number of bosses. After unlocking every class and item set, Toybox Mode can be accessed via the main menu under the Extras button and selecting Toybox in the bottom right.

Toybox Mode appears very similar to the regular in-game lobby, allowing players to select their class, trinket, and attack a training dummy while waiting for everyone in the lobby to ready up. The Map & Difficulty, however, is instead swapped for the Toybox, allowing players to manually select which ability upgrades to activate, and which items to add onto their characters. Once players are ready, they can proceed to the next area to test out their build against a giant treasuresphere with large amounts of health, displaying the usual post-battle summary of each player’s DPS after defeating it. Defeating the treasuresphere and starting a new Toybox Mode run will reset the player’s items, however, the last loadout can be easily restored by using the Previous Loadout button on the right side of the Toybox menu.

Gaining access to Toybox Mode is only the beginning, however, as most items and ability upgrades will likely still be locked from access within the Toybox itself. In order to use an item or ability upgrade in Toybox Mode, players will need to have completed a run on any difficulty with the unlock first. In the case of abilities, unlocking an ability upgrade on one class will automatically unlock the upgrade for all classes, expediting the process. Since these items can be enabled by completing a run on any difficulty, the best option for quickly activating all the items for Toybox Mode is tocomplete multiple runs on the easiest difficulty, Cute.
