There are more upcoming films coming to the MCU than ever before, including the one-of-a-kindShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the highly requestedDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and the demandedBlack Widow, among others. MCU fans have long been looking forward to theBlack Widowstandalone film, and the wait is nearly over.
Nearingthe premiere ofBlack Widow, Marvel has been dropping more teasers and exclusive content to fans. Rachel Weisz (playing Melina Vostokoff) answered some questions about the actresses and actors on set, and the acting experience behind the scenes ofBlack Widow.

Weisz spills some interesting facts about her co-stars, including how Scarlett Johansson has researched her role the most out of the cast and that Weisz herself is prone to break character on set. She goes on to explain that her character is nothing like herself in real life (in fact none of the characters match the cast in real life), and this provides a much-needed challenge in playing the role.Actor David Harbour(playing Russian super-soldier Alexei Shostakov), Weisz explains, is more susceptible to playing pranks and joking around on set.
Black Widowtakes place in the directaftermath ofCaptain America: Civil War.The film will follow Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) as she struggles to conceal conspiracies that threaten to reveal her secret past in espionage. Alongside her are Melina Vostokoff and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), both seasoned spies who trained with Black Widow in the dreaded Red Room in Russia. Vostokoff and Belova are like family and are determined to aid their old friend in any way. Helming the film is Cate Shortland, who is early in her directing career but has made some powerful short films and is known for the feature-length filmBerlin Syndrome.
With such an incredible team of women around and in the film,Black Widowwill most likely showcase the strength and independence of the superhero and shy away from the over-sexualization of the character in earlier films. The spy-thriller has a tall order to fill, being only the second film in the MCU centered around a female character, afterCaptain Marvel.
Not to mention, this is thelast MCU film that will include Black Widow, after the unfortunate demise of the character inAvengers: Endgame. Romanoff’s finale in the MCU is teased in trailers with signature Marvel fight sequences and an overarching sensation to complete the character arch of Black Widow herself.
