Live service games tend to have events themed after holidays and seasons, and if a recent datamine leak is any indication, the same can be said forRed Dead Redemption 2’sRed Dead Online mode. Dataminers digging through the game’s PC files have discovered evidence that a big change could be coming to the Red Dead Online map to celebrate the winter and Christmas season.

Dataminers have found a texture file that references “world snow coverage xmas,” indicating thatRed Dead Redemption 2’s Red Dead Online game map may very well be getting covered in snow as part of a Christmas event. Rockstar already covers the GTA Online map inGrand Theft Auto 5with snow to during the winter months, so it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see the company do the same thing withRed Dead Redemption 2.

As for what else aRed Dead Redemption 2Christmas event could entail, that remains to be seen. One has to imagine it will include the addition ofnew Legendary Bounties, perhaps some that are themed around the holiday. It will also likely add new cosmetics that players can get in the game, which will also likely be Christmas-themed.

WhenRed Dead Redemption 2and Red Dead Online originally launched, Rockstar didn’t bother much with seasonal events, but this year has been different. For example, there was aRed Dead Online Halloween eventthat gave fans of the open world game the chance to get their hands on some special masks, as well as hunt down a new legendary bounty that was hiding in the swamps.

Now that Red Dead Online’s performance is mostly stable and Rockstar has finished with major balancing in terms of its economy, it makes sense that the company has started doing seasonal events like this. Of course, it’s still possible that the leaked Red Dead Online Christmas event doesn’t actually come to pass, so fans should keep that in mind before they get too excited.

In the meantime, those holding out hope forRed Dead Redemption 2story DLCthis year should keep their expectations in check. Many of theRed Dead Redemption 2story DLC leaks have proven to be false, and dataminers haven’t found evidence that any kind of content like that will be coming to the game. Rockstar instead is likely focusing its efforts on its next big game, which is presumably aiming for release on next-generation consoles.

Red Dead Redemption 2is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
