Since the rumor made the rounds following the release ofResident Evil 3, it seems fairly clear thatResident Evil 4will indeed be getting the remake treatment, with the game supposedly in the works over at Capcom. Naturally, this had led to some mixed reactions from fans, many of which feel that the original release ofResident Evil 4is a classic that isn’t in need of a dramatic re-imaginingin the same vein as its two mainline predecessors.

Interestingly, it seems the original creator ofResident Evil 4,Shinji Mikami, is more open-minded than some of the remakes more cautious fans, with a new interview with IGN revealing the iconic director’s opinion on the remake. The interview, which delves into a lot of Shinji’s past and future work, details Evil 4and its supposed remake.

Discussing the modern direction of theResident Evilfranchise,IGN’s James Mielke asks Mikami: “the rumor is that now they’re moving on to remaking Resident Evil 4. How do you feel about that?” Initially, Mikami starts off by stating his admiration of the most recent takes on the popular gaming mainstay, stating “I saw a video of the Resident Evil 2 Remake and I thought it was very good,” before predicting that he thinks “they’re going to continue to remake these games since they’re selling well.”

Mielke then goes on to delve deeper into Mikami’s thoughts on perhaps his most iconic gaming being remade, stating “some developers are very adamant that certain games are perfect just the way they are. Is it safe to assume you don’t have any issues with seeing your, some would say, ultimate work remade by a new team?” In response, Mikami simply claims “as long as it turns out good I have no issues with it.” It’s great to see Mikami have faith in the idea of aResident Evil 4return, especially as his pioneering direction with the original game was a significant turning point for the series as a whole.

Before fans return to the eerie villages ofResident Evil 4,it seems they’ll be making their first treks through a similar setting in the heavily-rumoredResident Evil 8.The game, which is supposedly a major thematic departure for the series, will apparently return to the style of gameplay of the 7th game in the mainline series, featuring a first-person perspective. However, it seems the setting will go to villages and castles, with players fighting witches, werewolves, and zombies in armor. Hopefully, it’ll be yet another well-received gem for a series that has been making a major comeback in recent years.

AResident Evil 4remake is rumored to be in development.
