Summary

The upcoming Seekers of the Storm DLC forRisk of Rain 2is highly anticipated by the community, to say the least. And what’s not to be excited for given that the DLC means more playable Survivors, more maps, likely more items, and so on. While the developers at Gearbox (not Hopoo anymore) have already promised newcomer Survivors, shown the new maps, and talked about potential new items in the reveal, there’s still a lot that players are hoping is added or guessing will be added.

After coming up with some fan theories and concepts ourselves, let’s go over some of the things the fanbase has been wanting for years inRisk of Rain 2as well as all the things they have their fingers crossed for.

Risk of Rain 2 Seekers of the Storm - Huntress and Commando Finishing Off Providence

10Fresh Lore

Aurelionite Lore, More Mithrix Lore, Or Even A Bit More Artificer Lore Would Be Great

The Lore in theRisk of Raingames has always been incredibly well thought out, well-hidden, andmost importantly…incredibly interesting. The whole background of both Mytrix and Providence is something people have always wanted to know more and more about. Sure, fans know a bit about their childhood chasing Glass Frogs and throwing worms into Gravity Wells, but there’s tons more to unearth. What is this space sickness they have? Who is the mysterious ‘her’ that logbook entries like the one for the Brittle Crown mention, and are there more Cyclopians?

The Survivors of the Void DLC added a good chunk more lore aboutwhat Acrid’s been up to, what exactly the Void is, and so on, so hopefully the Seekers of the Storm answers even more of the series' longtime mysteries.

Risk of Rain 2 Seekers of the Storm - Chris Christodoulou Next To Spotify Album Art For RoR2 Soundtrack

9Some More Beats

Chris Christodoulou’s Name Is So Closely Linked To The Risk Of Rain IP

There’s nothing more synonymous with theRisk of Rainseries than the name Chris Christodoulou. His music plays such a huge part inthe whole sci-fi atmosphereand vibe of the games, similar to how the Pillows are with theFLCLseries or Crush 40 witha lot of theSonic the Hedgehoggames. So, if Seekers of the Storm doesn’t have at least a bit more of Chris’s music, fans are going to be very disappointed.

Thankfully, he did say in a Twitch Stream (which is now, sadly, unavailable) that he’s working on the music for Seekers of the Storm, so this particular want has already been pretty much locked in.

8Another DLC-Theme Specific Survivor Addition

Void Fiend Matched With The Void Theme, So Either An Aurelionite Or ‘Storm’ Themed Survivor Would Be Perfect

One of the best things about the Void Fiend, despite it being such a fun character, is how well its design meshed with the whole ‘Void’ theme of the DLC. So, if there’s no new Survivor that’s on brand with Seeker of the Storm’s theme, it’ll be a bit of a bummer.

Given what the Devlog and Announcement Trailer for Seekers of the Storm showed, it’s very likely to be a new Survivor tied to this ‘False Son’ or Aurelionite as a whole. The Steam page description for the upcoming DLC talks about a ‘Path of the Colossus’ and beating the False Son to ‘unlock the true power of his Soul’, so this is probably whereone of the new Survivors would be unlocked. It’s anyone’s guess, but we personally think it’ll be a golem-type Survivors that in some way mimics or homages attacks from Providence, Mithrix, Aurelionite, the False Son, or just Stone Golems in general.

7Even More Experimental Game Modes

Simulacrum Has Its Issues, But Fans Still More Than Appreciate The Effort

While Simulacrum, the new mode added with the Survivors of the Void DLC, is sort of a polarizing topic for the fanbase on whether this game mode is great or just ‘okay’, a new mode on top of this added with Seekers of the Storm would still be a big treat.

Wave Survival isalways fun in co-op, which is why Simulacrum is even at base level, still enjoyable to play. But, another option tomake the roguelike gameplay loopfeel even more fresh would go a long way.

6New Stage-Bound Secrets

Anything To The Level Of The ‘Her Concepts’ Challenge Would Be Incredible

The new stages added in the Survivors of the Void DLC are pretty fun and work well compared with the rest of the stages, but the one thing they’re missing out on big time is stage secrets. Stuff like finding N’kahauna’s Altar on the Wetland Aspect or the Ancient Gate on the Abandoned Aqueduct. So, if more stages are coming in the Seekers of the Storm DLC (which they are), here’s hoping they have some secrets like these that are comparable tosome of Hopoo Game’s best secrets.

While the actual unlock for N’Kahauna’s Altar is just ‘okay’, the secret itself is still one of the best in terms of how hidden it is, the atmosphere of the room, and the lore implications.

5Additional Stage & Boss Variety

Vagrants & Dunestriders Get A Bit Tedious After A While

The amount of different bosses players have the possibility of getting with each Stage is pretty decent, especially considering modifiers like ‘Overloaded’ or ‘Blazing’ exist. Still, the boss pool could always use more variety.

The fanbase ofRisk of Rain 2must be more than tired by now of seeking Clay Dunestriders every other Stage or Wandering Vagrants floating around. So, here’s hoping Seekers of the Storm adds at least a couple of bosses that can appear on all stages.

4Some Other Tool Similar To Void Items

Hopefully, They Find Another Way, Like Void Items, To Add New Items Without Bloating The Item Pool

The addition of Void Items inRisk of Rain 2was honestly such a genius idea. One of the biggest problems a game like this can run into is adding too many new items into the Item Pool and lowering the chances of finding the items that players actually want to find.

Void Items are a great workaround as they technically take up the same amount of ‘space’ as the items they’re variants of. So, hopefully, Seekers of the Storm will come up with another creative solution like this.

Risk of Rain 2 Seekers of the Storm - Example Of Day Night Variant

3Please, Stage Variants For More Than Just Treeborn Colony

The Stage Aesthetics Mod By HIFU Is A Perfect Reference For Them To Use

In the reveal of the Seekers of the Storm DLC, the developers at Gearbox gave a sneak peek of the upcoming stages and one of the new systems that come with it, a Day and Night variant of the stage. It seems like a fantastic idea for Treeborn Colony in particular, as it appears that the night variant will have different parts of the stage available that the day version doesn’t have.

However, this system, or at least a seasonal system, should come to a lot of the older stages. There’s already a fantastic mod for RoR2 (called StageAesthetics by HIFU) that adds all sorts of variants to each Stage like Morning Variants, Void Touched Variants, and so on. Hopefully, Gearbox takes a page from this mod’s metaphorical book.

2Quality-Of-Life Changes

Item Descriptions, Printer Speeds, & More

While it was a cute little gimmick when players first started out inRisk of Rain 2near its release, the lack of detailed item descriptions now 3+ years out is just irritating more than it is charming. Players shouldn’t have to use a wiki to figure out what items actually do or how stacks of items actually scale.

On top of this, while it was probably intentional on the developer’s part, the amount of time it takes for players to scrap and print items is also pretty tedious at this point. If they could figure out a more enjoyable way for players to use these systems and still have a risk-reward system in play for them in the upcoming DLC, that would be perfect.

1Address The Sizeable Lists Of Longtime Bugs

The Console Version As A Whole Is Really Buggy

And lastly, there are actually quite a lot of little bugs in the current state ofRisk of Rain 2that need to be fixed. Some items don’t work exactly how they say they do, some Survivors have some odd issues specific only to them, and the console version of the game, while it’s great they rebuilt it from the ground up, still has a good number of core issues. It would be perfect if Gearbox used the upcoming DLC as an opportunity to touch up and address a lot of the little things like this that have been building up over the years.
