Robloxis one of the biggest games in the world. Despite the significant controversies surrounding its alleged exploitative monetization toward children,Robloxis one of the most profitable titles currently available. What makesRoblox’s success particularly surprising is that it isn’t even available on PlayStation, the industry’s largest console platform. BefittingRoblox’s priority on profits, it’s perhaps unsurprising to hear that the game could soon be coming to PlayStation platforms.
A recently posted job listing has been discovered onRoblox’s career portal that makes very clear where the game could be headed next. The job title is listed as “Senior Software Engineer, PlayStation Console.” Suffice to say, ifRobloxis hiring developers to work specifically on the PlayStation platform then it only makes sense thatRobloxwill soon be brought toPlayStation consoles.Robloxisn’t currently available on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

If the job listing wasn’t clear, the body of the job listing certainly is. The job description explains that the Gaming Console Software Engineer will be responsible for building andsupportingRoblox’s engineon the “Sony PlayStation platform.” Further, listed under the “You Will” subheading for job responsibilities, the role is tasked with developing and supporting the “Robloxclient application” for gaming consoles “like Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4.” This job position is clearly designed specifically for working onRobloxon PlayStation platforms.
With all of that said, it’s still no certainty thatRobloxwill be coming to PlayStation platforms, or if it is, it may not be any time soon. While some believe thatRobloxsigned an exclusivity deal withXbox, a more rational explanation for the lack ofRobloxon PlayStation is the game’s complicated monetization and content creation systems. PlayStation publishing rules may not allow forRoblox’s platform to be brought to its consoles, orRobloxmay not want to change its game to meet PlayStation’s expectations.
Regardless, one of the world’s most successful games potentially coming to the current industry-leading console would be big news indeed. It’s stunning thatRobloxisn’t already on other platforms, to say the least. And the fact that it isn’t is perhaps what makes it feel so unlikely that it’s happening.
Until it’s officially announced,Robloxfans should probably put off buying aPlayStation console. There are clearly complications to consider, regardless of theRobloxteam’s hiring practices. This is still good news, though. This is a step toward bringingRobloxto PlayStation, whether it’s in the near or far future.
