Leaks about the ongoing production of 2023’s allegedCall of Duty Modern Warfare 3have already started coming out, suggesting that though the game may be quite similar to its 2022 predecessor, developer Sledgehammer Games is taking steps to differentiate it from anything that came before. One of the noteworthy leaks, however, suggests that the game will also revert some of the tweaks done by the previousModern Warfaretitles.Though the2023Call of Dutygame may make mistakesin some ways, it could also be a resounding success in other ways if some of the latest leaks are true. While it was rumored early on that the new game would be a big, comprehensive DLC forModern Warfare 2, it doesn’t seem that this is actually the case. It is allegedly going to feature the Ninja Perk from franchise history, the return of War Mode fromWW2, and a big revamp of the Perk system, attaching specific effects to particular types of clothes and gear, like helmets, gloves, and so on. Potentially the biggest rumored change to the core gameplay loop, however, lies in the fact that the game should once again feature enemy combatants as red dots on the in-game minimap, which the community has been asking for inModern Warfare 2.

Other leakers have also suggested that there may be lots of carryover fromModern Warfare 2intoModern Warfare 3. Notably, large batches of the new game’s arsenal have already leaked out, and some of the featured weapons include references to guns present only inModern Warfare 2, including menu icons and names. This makes some people believe that this is whererumors ofModern Warfare 2’s 2023 DLCcame from, as there may be plenty of overlap between the two titles.

It is worth highlighting thatModern Warfare 3’s release window got leakedby a federal judge, as part of the court case discussions surrounding Microsoft’s attempted acquisition of Activision Blizzard. There’s no real reason to believe thatCall of Duty2023 won’t be coming out in November, but it’s also not impossible that the game might end up being pushed back.

One of the things thatModern Warfare 3’s Sledgehammer Games needs to tackle are theworries aboutCall of Duty’s multiplayer, that the feature will continue to play second fiddle to the more mainstreamWarzoneofferings. It’s going to take some time before the developer’s plans for regular multiplayer crystallize for 2023, but some amount of optimism may be in order for the time being.
