Nintendo is one of the oldest video game publishers with a number of widely popular, beloved, and successful IPs under its belt. However, one that next to nobody had anticipated was the Mario and Rabbidscrossover,Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Now, something has happened that has fans curious ifNintendoplans to return to this particular franchise.
It’s safe to say thatMario + Rabbids Kingdom Battlewas a game that a lot of people didn’t ask for, but also potentially didn’t know they wanted. When the game first released, it surprised a significant portion of the gaming community. This turn-based strategy game was very easy to pick up and was enjoyable for a lot of players, despite how absurd the concept of the game was. However, following a recent change on Twitter, a lot of fans have noticed a detail that could possibly point to an upcoming game.

A lot of fans have noticed that the officialRabbidsTwitter handle has changed. The handle was previously @RabbidsOfficial, but now it has been changed to @mariorabbids. For many fans, this potentially signifies that a newMario + Rabbidscrossover game is in the works. Although, given this is such a small piece of evidence, it could possibly be more wishful thinking than anything else.
Right now, this is the only thing that fans have to go off of, and in terms of support it’s not much. Then again, a few months after the Nintendo Switch released,Ubisoft did say it wanted to be the leading Nintendo Switch publisher, stating a lot of games were in the works. Quite a number of Ubisoft titles have been released onto the Nintendo Switch since the console was first announced.
It’s possible thatMario + Rabbids Kingdom Battleis just the first game in a new crossover franchise. Though, it begs to question of what other kinds of games could possibly come out of a franchise like that. It seems less likely thatMario + Rabbidswill be delegated exclusively toXCOM-style, turn-based strategy games.
In any case, it will be interesting to see if there’s any future for this franchise. Quite a number ofNintendo Switchexclusive titles have already been released in addition toMario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, but considering how much unexpected success the game became, a follow-up doesn’t seem too far outside the realm of possibility. For now, fans will just have to wait for more news.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battleis available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
