Summary
This access to classic PlayStation titles is one of theperks of subscribing to PS Plus Premium, because it’s difficult to find physical copies of many PS1, PS2, and PSP games, and their rarity will only increase with time. And a lot of people no longer have the consoles required to play the titles even if they did find a copy. Thanks to subscription services like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, gamers no longer want for options when it’s time to pick something new to play.

If rumors prove accurate,PS Plus Premiummembers may soon have two new fighting games to enjoy. As spotted by Gematsu, the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee recently ratedTekken 6andSoulCalibur: Broken Destinyfor the PS4 and PS5. It’s assumed that these new ratings indicate that the two retro games will be added to the PlayStation Plus Classics catalog in the future.
Fans may be particularly excited aboutSoulCalibur: Broken Destinybecause it was originally released in 2009 as a PlayStation Portable exclusive. The game featured acameo appearance fromGod of War’s Kratosand also had the regular characters fromSoulCalibur 4. One of the developer’s stated goals was to introduce the franchise to beginners, but despite this, many reviewers stated thatSoulCalibur: Broken Destinystill felt like a full-fledgedSoulCaliburtitle. In fact, many bemoaned that a game with its technical prowess, graphics, and gameplay was confined to a portable system, and that problem may soon be solved by its addition to PS Plus.
Tekken 6also came out on the PSP in 2009, though it was released for PS3, Xbox 360, and arcades as well. The game received generally high reviews from critics and players alike, and it was nominated for a few awards, though it was contending withStreet Fighter 4, which came out on consoles the same year. For many gamers,Tekken 6is the game that introduced them to the franchise, and series director Katsuhiro Harada has said that it brought in a surge of new players.
While the physical versions ofTekken 6andSoulCalibur: Broken Destinyare still relatively easy to find for a reasonable price, the convenience of streaming them directly onto a PS4 or PS5 can’t be overstated. Hopefully, the rumors about them coming to PS Plus will pan out so that fans of both series can revisit these two classics.
