SaGa Emerald Beyond Formations

What Are Formations?

In the game, Formations are how battles are fought. Players will need to set their recruited characters up into a Formation before each battle, which isessential to combat. These Formations are able to be changed before starting any battle in the game, meaning they can be changed to ensure the best is used each time. They will affect how much BP the team will have, when that BP increases, and what modifiers attacks will have during the battle. Sometimes, Formations can change the outcome of battles and will change when characters attack, how they attack, and how they defend. This means that players will want to be careful when selecting their Formations.

Whennew characters are recruited to the group, new Formations may be unlocked. This means that anytime someone joins the characters, make sure to check the Formations tab to see if new ones have been added. To do this, follow these steps:

How To Decide Which Formation To Use

Players will want to ensure that they are using the best Formation when they enter into a battle, so they will need to understand how to decide which one is the best. Truthfully, the best Formation will change depending on the battle and what characters are in the Retinue. The best thing to do is to read the description of each Formation before deciding on which one to go with. Having the proper Formation can be the difference between winning and losing a battle.

For example, Rising Power’s Formation description says, “facilitates the casting of powerful spells. Spell BP cost -2, increased attack, and increased defense in 5th position. BP increases by 1 each turn.” This shows that the Formation is perfect if the Retinue is dependent upon spellcasters. Fully Flanked’s Formation description says it is effective against flying foes, and Retainers' League’s description says it is used by Squires to protect any spellcasters. The best thing to do is read the description of the Formation and decide if it is what is needed in the scenario that is unfolding.
