Japanese brand Premico, which often produces official anime merchandise, has released a new necklace for pre-order inspired by one of themost famous magical girlfranchises ever,Sailor Moon. This necklace is more than your usual piece of anime-inspired jewelry, though, and has the price tag to match that. It is made using a traditional Japanese silver working technique from Edo period, combining traditional and modern Japanese culture for a beautiful end result.
The necklace is being released specifically to celebrate the upcoming release of theSailor MoonCosmosfilms next month. The films will release on June 9th and 30th in Japan, telling a two-part story across both films with a short gap between them. Fans have high expectations forSailor Moon Cosmosafter the success of theSailor Moon Crystalanime series andSailor Moon Eternaltwo-part film released in 2014 and 2021 respectively. Both were beloved by fans both new and old, and they expect the same level of quality from this new film.

The necklace itself is based on the Silver Crystal, one of themost powerful magical itemsin theSailor Moonuniverse. It originally belonged to Queen Serenity in the Moon Kingdom, and was used not only to save her kingdom but also to send her daughter, Prince Endymion, and all the Sailor Scouts to Earth where they could be reborn. The Silver Crystal pops up regularly in theSailor Moonstory, and has many powers and abilities that are used throughout the anime and manga.
This real-life Silver Crystal necklace features three cubic zirconia gems, the largest of which is meant to look like the Silver Crystal in the anime. The rest of the necklace has been made with intricate silver working called Hirado Zaiku, which first came to Japan from the Netherlands during theEdo period. The silver work itself is so tiny and fine it looks like lace, and makes up flower petals around the center stone on the necklace.
The necklace comes in a special collectors box as well, with theSailor Moon Cosmoslogo printed on the outside. As we said before, it is not cheap - the necklace is listed at 54,780 yen (almost $400 USD). But with 400-year-old silver working and three beautiful cubic zirconia gems, the price is worth it for die-hardSailor Moonfans, of which there is certainly no short supply. Luckily, Premico is also letting fans split the payments up into 8 much more reasonable installments!
Premico’s release of this necklace has great timing, as the pre-orders via theirofficial websitebecame available May 16th via their website with June shipping scheduled. The necklace has been announced at a time whenSailor Moonfans are hungry for the last part of the story to be released, and then will arrive in their homes right in the middle of their hype and emotions from finally seeing the long-awaited films. This means that the necklace will likely sell well despite its high price tag as a sought-after collector piece, and piece ofSailor Moonhistory.
