MostSkyrimplayers have seen the game glitch out at one time or another, but sometimes the bugs that appear are weirder than usual, like one that led to a potato looking positively possessed. The peculiar encounter is one of many physicsglitches inSkyrimthat often lead to hilarious results.
Skyrim’s engine allows for objects in the world to be physically interacted with, rather than just selecting and adding them to one’s inventory via a menu. Players can pick up, rotate, and fully examine the game’s three-dimensional objects, but this functionality has the downside of sometimes breaking and causing things to behave in abnormal ways.

In this particular case, player ShalidorsSecret shared their experience of aSkyrimpotatorolling in place as though it’s possessed. The video shows the player enter a normal looking room that has a few decorative items strewn about, including a basket holding a few potatoes. While most of the potatoes are just sitting there as one would expect, the one on top of the pile is standing upright and spins on top of the others, as though an invisible hand is rotating it.
What’s happening here is actually due to a commonSkyrimissue, but it doesn’t normally have this exact result. When two or more objects inSkyrimtry to occupy the same space, they’re forced apart from each other. In some cases, theobject collisionmay be severe enough, or the space limited enough that objects go flying around the area or shake wildly in place. It’s a common sight to see not only inSkyrimbut other modern games, as well. While it’s not clear if the topmost potato is colliding with another potato or the basket it’s sitting in, the hitboxes are somehow intersecting at just the right angle to cause the potato to twirl.
Skyrimis arguably a masterful game, managing to maintain relevance over a decade after its release. The massive modding scene helps to keep the game interesting as well, but for many players, the eccentricities of the base game are part of what make it so much fun. Seeing an NPC or even the player themselves go flying when hit by a Giant or thehead of a Revered Dragon sticking out of the groundare funny moments that stick out in players' minds. Not every glitch inSkyrimis a welcome one, but a surreal moment like this usually manages to amuse.
