The Jarls ofSkyrimare some of the most memorable characters in the fifthElder Scrollstitle. No matter how a player decides to go about their journey in the northern region of Tamriel, it is highly likely they will run into a Jarl. In total,Skyrimhas nine Jarls, each in charge of one of the game’s provinces. From giving the Dragonborn a quest to go and hunt some local bandits, to letting them have a house within the hold, Jarls can be a vital part of the overallSkyrimexperience.

Recently, one player has noticed an interesting detail about the rulers ofSkyrim. No_Concentrate_7221 on Reddit didn’t point out anything to do with the lore of the Jarls, the quests tied to them or anything like that, instead spotting a pattern with how the Jarls sit in their chairs. Each Jarl has a literal seat of power inSkyrim, a place that the player can likely find them in unless it is night time within the game.

No_Concentrate_7221 pointed out that only Jarl Elisif, the currentJarl of Solitude at the timeSkyrimbegins, knows how to sit in her chair properly. The rest of them do something that fans in the comments of No_Concentrate_7221’s Reddit post are referring to as “Jarl-spreading,” a stance which has the Jarl resting their chin on one hand, with their legs spread wide. This casual sitting position is famous among the Jarls ofSkyrim, and to many is an expression of how they are used to authority.

Some fans noted that Elisif could be sitting in her slightly more formal position due to the fact that she is very new to the role of Jarl, a theme seen in a lot of the questlines centered around Solitude. Previously, Elisif was the wife of Torygg, the previousHigh King ofSkyrimwhose murder began the Civil War. There is a lot of lore tied to Elisif in the game, and many believe that even the way she sits ties into that, showing a great amount of attention to detail by Bethesda.

There is also the argument that compared to the other Jarls inSkyrim, Elisif is more associated with the Imperials, which makes her a primary target in Ulfric Stormcloak’s rebellion. Some fans also noted that even the Dragonborn sits in the “Jarl-spreading” position whenever they take a seat in a Jarl’s chair, implying Elisif’s position may have nothing to do with her being new to her power at all. No matter the explanation, it is yet anotherinteresting detail fans have spotted inSkyrimover a decade after the game first launched.
