The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimhas been out for about a decade now, and so it’s safe to say that many of the games tricks were discovered by the community ages ago. However, withSkyrimcelebrating its 10th anniversary this year andSkyrim: Anniversary Editionset to launch soon, there may be many who are just discovering the game for the first time or who haven’t played it in a long time and forgot some of its more helpful tricks.
One trick thatSkyrimplayers have been doing for years is abusingHadvar in Helgen Keepat the beginning of the game to max out their Sneak skill, and a recent video shared by Reddit user PeachCobblerActual has put the trick back in the spotlight. To do the trick, players have to start a new character inSkyrim, then play until they get to the end of the game’s very first quest, “Unbound.”

None of the choices players make in the Unbound quest really matter for this glitch, so they can choose to go with Hadvar or Ralof and it won’t make a difference. Play the first quest until getting to the cave where Hadvar or Ralof point out that there’s a bear in the area. The game wants players to attack the bear, but instead, crouch behind Hadvar or Ralof and start attacking them with a weapon. No matter how many timesSkyrimplayersattack them, they won’t fight back.
Skyrimplayers can do this endlessly, and in the process they will max out their Sneak skill and potentially other skills as well. It doesn’t take all that long and is a helpful trick for those who want an early Sneak advantage in the game. Having amaxed out Sneak skill inSkyrimwill certainly make certain quests later in the game much easier, so it’s definitely something to consider as long as players don’t mind abusing an exploit.
It’s probable that this exploit will be available for fans to abuse in theupcomingSkyrim: Anniversary Edition, but it’s also possible that it will be fixed for the re-release. As it stands, not a whole lot is known about whatSkyrim: Anniversary Editionis bringing to the table in terms of bug fixes or new content, so fans will have to wait and see on that front.
What we do know is thatSkyrim: Anniversary Editionis adding a fishing mini-gameand will have native next-generation versions, so it should be the definitive way to experience Bethesda’s open world epic. Fans will find out more when it launches next month.
