The new Root of Nightmares raid inDestiny 2has been the focus of the community since it launched earlier on March 10th, and incredibly, has already been completed without any deaths by at least one skilled team of Guardians. The new raid activity, released just a couple of weeks after the launch ofDestiny 2’s most recent expansion, has been conquered by a surprisingly large number of players already - even while the activity was in contest mode.
While the limited-timechallenge mode forDestiny 2’s new raid is overnow, it proved to be far more accessible for the larger player base compared to previous contest-mode raids. Generally, new raids for the game are locked at this mode for either the first 24 or 48 hours after they go live, setting the level of difficulty particularly high during this time by disabling certain weapons and imposing a harsher power level cap. Combined with the puzzles and tricks that players often need to solve along the way, freshly-released raids have historically taken fireteams many consistent hours to complete as they race to be the first team to beat the endgame activities.

While theRoot of Nightmares raid was first toppledjust a mere 2 hours and 24 minutes after it went live, another team of Guardians has since beaten the raid without suffering a single death along the way, and all in just a little over 42 minutes. This incredible feat was achieved by the players Sweatcicle, ShmurdaBenny, Icecide, Saltagreppo, MoopleLoops, and ItzAngo while the raid was still in contest mode, with the run being shared in a video that Sweatcicle posted on his YouTube channel.
The Root of Nightmares raid introduces a plethora of activity-exclusive rewards that players can still get their hands on, even with the activity no longer in contest mode. New, colorful sets of armor are up for grabs for each Guardian class, alongside plenty of new weapons includingthe Conditional Finality exotic shotgun. With Root of Nightmares no longer in contest mode, fans cannot gain access to the associated rewards on the Bungie store, though the activity should be a little more accessible now for players who weren’t equipped for the raid’s challenge mode.
Destiny 2’s latest expansion,Lightfall, has been a polarizing topic for many in the game’s community since it launched. The expansion has undoubtedly brought a lot to the table when it comes to content, with the new Strand subclass offering new abilities that players have been having fun with while exploring the Neptunian city of Neomuna. Despite its upgrades, the DLC’s campaign has received widespread criticism due to its step down in narrative quality, leaving players with many questions they hope to see answered in the game’s upcoming seasons.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
