Sonic the Hedgehog 2has finally got an official poster and it already looks like Sonic won’t need to be edited this time around. The company already got his look right this time based on the promotional poster that was released ahead of theSonic 2trailer tomorrow.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2will pick up right where the last movie left off and, of course, introduce some new characters. The first movie was a nice introductory story to get fans and newcomers into the world ofSonic the Hedgehog,while the sequel will look to expand on it now that the groundwork is set. One aspect of this expansion is bringing in new characters such as Knuckles,who will be played by Idris Elba.

The newSonic the Hedgehog 2poster has a vibrant color scheme, with the blue and orange hue of the sky and sun meant to reflect the two iconic heroes shown. Tails and Sonic take center stage as they engage in aerial combat with Dr. Eggnman. Knuckles isn’t shown on the poster but he will be in the movie, though to what extent or how much he will be is currently unknown. However, the officialSonic 2synopsis reveals that Knuckles will start off as an antagonist.
“After settling in Green Hills,Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles,” reads the synopsis, which proves that the red echidna will in fact be starting off as opposition to Sonic in this film. The synopsis continues with, “[…] in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.”
It seems like it’s a battle and a race against time. Fortunately Sonic is as fast as they come, so if anybody can outrace time, it would be him. Fans will likely have a better sense of what to expect when the firstSonic 2trailer debuts at theVideo Game Awards tomorrow.
Sonic the Hedgehog’s universe is much bigger than just him, Tails, Knuckles, and Eggman. However, if fans want to see more they’ll have to hope this movie does well or just support it for the sake of doing so, that way the company sets the green light for another sequel to be made. After all,Sonic is getting his second windin terms of fan appreciation and releases.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2will be available in theaters on July 14, 2025.
