Although the hype has died down,Sons of the Forestenjoyed great success when it released not long ago, and the developer has now rolled out the game’s first major patch, which comes loaded with a bunch of tweaks. Despite being somewhat saturated over the years, thesurvival horror genre is still going pretty strong, with Endnight’s recent forest-based title sitting comfortably among some of its contemporaries. There is evidently something about trying to survive in a harsh environment that keeps pulling players in.

For those who are new to the sequel, there is plenty ofadvice forSons of the Forestbeginners. Just trying to make it through each night with food, water, and shelter is enough without having to battle with the cannibalistic denizens that inhabit the area. While fans have been getting to grips with the early access, the developer has been putting together a significant update.

A recent patch forSons of the Forest, which is simply called “Patch 01,” adds a host of new things to the game while also tweaking a few elements. As well as implementing a mini boss, binoculars, and a hang glider, this latest update also fixes a number of issues. One of the more notable ones involves the AI companion Kelvin, the helpful NPC who is tasked with helping the player by chopping down wood, building shelter, and collecting resources. However, Kelvin would complete this first objective even if the player was already using the tree as part of their base. This was obviously an oversight when it came to programming the character, and this should no longer be a problem.

One of the other things that’s been fixed is a bug which made it possible to glitch through locked doors using just a stick. Because of this, it didn’t take long for fans to speedrun the main storyline, completingSons of the Forestin just a few minutes. However, the developer recognizes that this fix might not go down well with those in the speedrunning community, so the patch notes offer an apology. Having said that, it’s understandable that Endnight would want to patch this glaring issue, especially since the game is still in early access.

Although it’s an indie title,Sons of the Forestenjoyed a great amount of popularity when it launched on February 23. While a good survival game in its own right, it wasSons of the Forest’s Kelvin who was the real star. However, his blunder was no doubt a detriment to his usefulness, so this latest patch should make the NPC a lot more helpful.
