South Park’s24th season may be taking its time to get going, but that doesn’t mean series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone aren’t busy taking good care of the show’s legacy by trying to buy Eric Cartman’s beloved Casa Bonita restaurant.

Back in 2003 when “Casa Bonita” premiered as the eleventh episode ofSouth Parkseason 7, few fans knew that the Mexican restaurant was part of an actual “eatertainment” chain dating back to the early ’70s. The “Casa Bonita” episode in itself is quite iconic forSouth Park, as Cartman tricks a very naive Butters into thinking a meteor will destroy Earth just so he can take his spot at Kyle’s birthday party.

Unfortunately, since its bigSouth Parkfeature, Casa Bonita has closed all of its locations in the United States with the only exception being the one in Lakewood, Colorado, and that’s where Parker and Stone come in. According to an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, theSouth Parkduodecided they wanted to buy Casa Bonita upon hearing the news that it might be closing forever after the company that owns it filed for bankruptcy, partly due to the restaurant’s closure during the pandemic.

In Parker’s own words, “We want to buy Casa Bonita and treat it right. I feel like it was neglected even before the pandemic.” The duo even laid out their plans for the location from the get-go. The Casa Bonita located in Colorado features an arcade, an indoor waterfall, and the iconic Black Bart Cave fans ofSouth Parkmay be familiar with. However, Parker and Stone really want to level up the food served so that Casa Bonita can live up to Cartman’s culinary dreams.

Parker and Stone’s love for Casa Bonita goes as far as turning it intoDLC forSouth Park: The Fractured But Whole, something that really isn’t that surprising considering the reason they decided to add it to the show was the pair’s fond memories of the place when they were growing up. Of course, Casa Bonita is far from the only easter egg inFractured But Whole, so it will be interesting to see the kind ofSouth Parkreferences that will invade a revamped Casa Bonita.

Currently,South Parkfans are waiting for an official premiere for season 24 after the first two episodes came in the form ofSouth Park’sPandemicandVaccination specials. The two episodes received excellent ratings and reviews, so many are eager for the rest of what’s to come from Parker and Stone, besides great Mexican food that is.
