The classicStar Wars: Battlefrontgames are coming back in a blockbuster collection later this year. In 2004,Destroy All Humansdeveloper Pandemic Studios released the originalStar Wars: Battlefront, which allowed players to recreate famous battles from theStar Warsmovies. A sequel was released the following year to coincide withStar Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith, adding content from that movie as well as playable ship battles in space.

A handful of spin-off games were later produced for handheld platforms and mobile devices, but a full-fledgedStar Wars: Battlefront 3would ultimately be canceled due to issues between LucasArts and developer Free Radical. Playtest footage ofthis unmadeBattlefrontsequelwas eventually released online, but the series would ultimately instead see a reboot in 2015’sStar Wars Battlefront.Star Wars Battlefront 2would launch a couple of years later and bring in elements from the rest of the Sequel Trilogy, but DICE later confirmed that it would not be developing a third game for now.

In the meantime, gamers will be able to dive back into the classicStar Wars: Battlefronttitles, as revealed during this week’s Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase livestream. LongtimeStar Warsport studio Aspyr is developingStar Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection,whichwill be released on March 14. This bundle of the original twoBattlefrontgames will also be available on PlayStation consoles and contains all the action-packed gameplay of those titles, with some additional content thrown in like playable Asajj Ventress and Kit Fisto characters and a Jabba’s Palace map.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collectionwill also incorporate Hero Assault on every map. This mode was only available on Tatooine in the originalStar Wars Battlefront 2and allows players to battle as iconic characters like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vaderacross classicStar Warslocationslike the Death Star and Naboo. The collection also featuresmassive online multiplayer with up to 64 players, allowing fans to recreate the large-scale skirmishes of the movies.

Everything else fans loved about the originalStar Wars: Battlefrontgames, such as Galactic Conquest andBattlefront 2’s trooper-centric story campaign, will be present and accounted for in the new collection. With DICE’s rebootedStar Wars Battlefrontseries seemingly on holdfor the time being, players itching to experience some old-school action will be able to do so in theStar Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, which will blast onto Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on March 14.

Star Wars Battlefront, produced by Pandemic Studios, is a 2004 first-and-third person shooting game that borrowed many of the same mechanics as the Battlefield franchise. The game focuses on large-scale battles and recreates various encounters from the movies.
