First released in 2016,Stardew Valleyhas become one of the most popular life-sim games of all time, with many falling in love with its intuitive gameplay mechanics and extensive NPC interactions. Stardew Valleyplayer OverzealousNapper shared a snapshot of their rather unfortunate secret friend for whom they had to give an in-game gift. The game features a special event called the Feast of the Winter Star, a festival where all the citizens of Pelican Town gather and give gifts to randomly selected partners. This requires the player to give a gift to their chosen friend and, in turn, the player will receive a present from one of the NPCs. However, OverzealousNapper received their notice letter from Mayor Lewis detailing their secret gift friend as their in-game ex-wife, Abigail.Stardew Valleyhas always allowed players to build up friendship points with various NPCs andeven marry an NPC, if they are single. More recently, the developer added an update that permits players to get a divorce, such as in the case of this fan. However, the RNG of them having to then be the secret gift-giver for their now ex-wife came as both a shock and laugh to theStardew Valleyplayer.
FellowStardew Valleyfans shared in the amusement of the incredibly unfortunate RNG. Many noted in the replies that once an in-game divorce is finalized, the NPC character refuses to speak to the player. As such, it is impossible for OverzealousNapper to speak to Abigail at the festival, let alone give her a gift. If a player fails to give a gift at the festival, then they will not receive a present in return. Some in the comments joked that it was an accurate representation of real-world divorce, while others speculated that Mayor Lewis was potentially getting revenge on the player for theStardew Valleypurple shortsincident.
On top of its already expansive gameplay content, the NPC interactions are arguably what helpStardew Valleyto stand out in a sea of life-sim games. With anew festival coming toStardew Valley, the game is likely to keep players engaged with its fun events, silly RNG, and lovable characters.
Stardew Valleyis available now on Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
