Although it didn’t play a major role in and of itself throughout the Direct showcase, Bethesda has confirmed thatStarfield’s first post-launch expansion will be called Shattered Space. Indeed, it’s a small blink-and-you-miss-it detail, which the Direct was filled with. After all, it showed offStarfield’s various planets and cities, gunplay, skills, companions, ship customization, and much, much more.
While fans were prepared forStarfieldto end the Showcase, it seems clear that it did its job. Hype for the game was alright high, but it seems much bigger now with the vast freedom Bethesda has on offer with the game. It’s something fans can easily expect to sink hundreds of hours into, and post-launch expansions are only going to help that.

Starfield’s first major expansion is called Shattered Space, and while fans don’t know what it entails yet (and likely won’t until after launch), it does have some potential horror vibes. The naming along is reminiscent ofDead Space. Either way, fans got their glimpse of this when theConstellation Edition ofStarfieldwas shown off. As seen below, not only is that included, but there will be cosmetic extras, up-to-5 day early access, a special case, a Constellation box with patch and watch, and more.
Overall, it’s hard to speculate as to what Shattered Space could entail. There’s so much to the game that it would obviously be feature complete at launch, but as a story DLC, fans can expect said story to keep expanding. Based on what was seen today, it seems players link up with Constellation after encountering an artifact that seems to speak with them. It could be that, whilealiens don’t play an immediate role inStarfield, finding this ancient alien race might. In that way, it almost seems likeMass Effect, but it could be that Shattered Space expands on that. Of course, it could be anything else just as easily.
The Xbox Games Showcase came with someheavy hitters likeFable, Avowed, Star Wars Outlaws, Clockwork Revolution, and more, but the Starfield Direct managed to stand out. It wasn’t quite a “one more thing” moment the industry is known for, but it’s clear why the Starfield Direct was chosen to end the showcase. Fans can expect more news in the coming months ahead of its launch, but Shattered Space may remain a mystery for some time.
