Summary
Starfieldfeatures many unique planets and moons, most of which feature alien environments that can lead to some unexpected and particularly fun moments in combat, and one player evidenced this in a clip where an enemy had a delayed reaction to being shot in the head. While a lot of fans can easily recognizeStarfield’s gameplay resemblances to its older siblings, namely theFalloutandElder Scrollsfranchises, Bethesda’s newest space-based RPG boasts a scale far beyond that of its predecessors.
Of course, the sheersize and scope of a game such asStarfieldset the foundation for nearly unlimited potential when it comes to environments. While hardcoreFalloutfans are well-accustomed to the challenges that come with surviving in the wasteland, players exploring the vast galaxy ofStarfieldcan find themselves anywhere from tropical, paradise-like planets to the hellish surface of Venus. As expected, space is host to innumerable worlds that each feature a slightly different surface environment, butStarfieldalso does a great job of factoring a planet’s gravity into gameplay, which itself can have a profound impact on combat - particularly for players who like their grenades.

SinceStarfieldbecame available to early access playersat the beginning of the month, the game’s community has found no shortage of new things to discover. Battling pirates in low-gravity environments offers a sort of experience that most games don’t, and one fan of the game known as Unf0cused on Reddit recently shared a popular video that features a surprising effect of combat in low gravity. The clip shows what seems to be a pirate’s hilariously delayed reaction to being shot in the face, and while the player initially suspected they had missed their shot, the enemy’s slow ragdoll is nothing more than an effect of the low local gravity.
Similar moments have been experienced and shared by other fans of the game, though many players are at odds over whether this ragdoll effect is an intentional feature or the result of abug inStarfield. Many would expect the stopping power of a bullet impact to throw an enemy off their feet more violently, though some have pointed out that certain ammunitions - specifically, highly-piercing ones - could actually penetrate a target without applying much momentum. Paired with a low-gravity environment, this kind of effect would actually seem somewhat realistic, intentional or not.
Starfield’s wide range of perks, powers, and planets makes for a lot of fun when it comes to combat, and while gravity doesn’t otherwise seem to have much of an effect on gunplay in general, players have learned the fun way thatStarfield’s gravity physics can make for some hilarious moments with grenades. With so many worlds out there to explore, it’s safe to say that players will be finding plenty more to discover for a long time to come.
