Summary
Building outposts inStarfieldcan be a rewarding experience with the proper setup, and yet some players can’t help but wonder how much better the system could be if hostile outposts could be conquered. Unlike theship builder inStarfield, fans have been somewhat lukewarm on the outpost system. Compared to the settlements ofFallout 4, many have felt that the feature was either a step backwards, or somewhat redundant given how easy gathering resources or credits gets after a certain point.
On top of these pet peeves, there has been one major problem that the community kept pointing out: ship designs and outposts do notcarry over inStarfield’s New Game Plus. The inability to save outpost layouts makes many players just not bother with the system after setting up their first outpost inStarfield, and the lack of a grid or snapping system makes interior decoration a tedious experience. However, some players have managed to build truly impressive outposts whose scale rivals some of the cities that Bethesda made forStarfield, and the shortcomings of the feature have done little to stop their stubborn ambition.

On the flip side, fans such as Astraliguss would prefer ifStarfieldtook a page from theFar Cryseries, and allowed players to keep the outposts they’d find on planets as their own. The suggestion was put forward on the mainStarfieldsubreddit, where it garnered plenty of approval from other players. The thread has since evolved into a general discussion onhow outposts inStarfieldcould be expandedas a feature, with many voices from the community hoping that Bethesda adds an “in-ground” landing pad without the stairs that come with the current option.
Another feature requested by players is being able to have vendors on outposts, similar to the system that already exists inFallout 4. As things are, outposts inStarfieldexist as resource generators, with a secondary role of providing players access to most of the ship parts (sans exclusive pieces sold directly from the manufacturers).
Though it remains to be seenhow Shattered Space will expandStarfield, it could be a good direction for Bethesda to have a Hearthfire DLC for the game at some point in the future. Players have already seen the vestiges of a space station feature that was cut from the game during development, and it’s highly suspected that Bethesda will implement it as part of its post-launch support forStarfield. That being said, given how muchFallout 4’s modding community expanded on settlements, players can expectStarfieldmods to play a similar role.
