The recent leak ofSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s Battle Pass inclusion, currencies, and UI—all notably in a single-player game—has received some backlash, with some fans comparing the new game toMarvel’s Avengers. As many know, the latter had a solid campaign and has had some high points since launch, but is otherwise a live-service title that hasn’t been able to support its content enough. In fact, rumors suggest thatMarvel’s Avengers' live-service supportis shutting down this year.While thisSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice LeagueBattle Pass and UI leakdid originate on 4chan and should be taken with a grain of salt, many think it explains why a proper gameplay showcase for the game hasn’t been shown yet. There are nine overhead tabs, including one for “looks,” “loadout,” and “Battle Pass,” none of which are themselves shown off. Below that is a row of currencies, a busy lefthand side with mission details, difficulty options, and more, as well as a power or level display foreachSuicide Squadcharacter(controlled by bots here). Twitter user Evan Filarca was among the first to post this image in comparison withMarvel’s Avengers, as its messy UI is even more cluttered thanSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but the comparisons are there. It should be noted that the loadout tab would likely contain the information seen in the belowMarvel’s Avengersscreenshot, but it is a concerning point nonetheless.
However, this is hardly the only superhero game UI to receive some flak. On the other hand of the spectrum,Gotham Knights' UI got some flakfor looking nearly as busy as these, for seemingly mimicking a mobile game, and in some cases being a lesser version ofDestiny’s UI. The latter obviously works for the popular live-service title, but again, there’s something to a single-player game looking like a GaaS title that doesn’t sit well with fans.
It should be noted that sources at VGC tell the publication that the Battle Pass is for cosmetics only and that the currencies are character-specific (hopefully eliminating fears of it being a complex currency-premium currency system), but that doesn’t do much for fan worries that the UI looks like a GaaS title. In fact, there are rumors thatSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewas originally a live-service title, one that transitioned to a single-player game after seeing other live-service titles fail, but the problem here is that, true or otherwise, the UI definitely looks like it.
