While some fans may have thought that the days ofTom Clancy’s The Division 2were ending, it seems like Ubisoft has other plans. The studio has recently unveiled what the next two years of content will look like, and fans may be in for a treat. Not only can they expect a slew of improvements via Project Resolve, but Ubisoft is also hoping to launch a brand-new DLC forThe Division 2once 2025 rolls around.
Nothing is known about this DLC quite yet as it is still over a year away. And because of that, it may have a lot to prove to audiences when it finally hits store shelves. Asking players to wait a full year before they can see the next stage of the game’s story seems like a risky move, especially since it has already been out for four years now. On top of that, Ubisoft is set to launchan entirely new game in theDivisionuniverse, which will put extra pressure onThe Division 2to deliver. Even though story DLC may be an exciting prospect, it seems like everything is stacked up against it.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Has a Lot to Prove With Its New Roadmap
Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Still Has Years of Content to Look Forward To
Earlier this month, Ubisoft unveiled its massive plans tocontinue supportingTom Clancy’s The Division 2for years to come. First, the studio has plans to completely overhaul multiple parts of the game through Project Resolve. This series of updates will add quality-of-life improvements, tweak various aspects of the core gameplay, provide numerous balancing changes, and deploy other fixes. After it officially launches, Ubisoft will then add various bits of content throughout the year.
The Division 2’s Year 6 will kick off with the start of a new season. That season will bring more quality-of-life improvements, a new manhunt, and a new apparel event. Later in 2024, players will be treated to season 2, which will introduce updated seasons, a new manhunt, and a new apparel event. Then, the fun will continue in 2025 with a brand-new Story DLC. And that is not all, as the franchise will also be treated toTom Clancy’s The Division: Heartlandsometime in the future. All of that makes it feel like a great time to be a fan of the series, but there is a serious question worth asking: is this all enough to keep players invested into 2025?
The Division 2’s Story DLC Is Coming a Bit Too Late
Even though there is a plethora of content to look forward to, the timing of the story DLC seems like a strange choice. The Division 2has only had one major story DLC viathe Warlords of New York expansionso far. That pack came out a year after the game launched and expanded it greatly by letting players revisit New York City. Instead of quickly following that up with even more DLC content, there will be a five-year gap between releases.
Since there is such a major gap between DLC releases, this next story DLC really needs to blow players away. By the time it launches, the game will have been out for more than six years. Players may not even be interested inmoreDivision 2adventuresat that point, especially if the updates leading up to it do not excite them. It just feels like it will be a bit too late, so Ubisoft will have to try everything it can to make players care again.
Not only willThe Division 2be aging, but players will also have been treated to an entirely new game by then (and that’s not counting external competition). Ubisoft is currently working on the free-to-play spin-offThe Division: Heartland, which will take the franchise to a whole new setting. While a release date for the game has not been announced yet, there is a strong chance it will launch before 2025, andDivision 2fans will likely make their way to it. So, unless this story DLC is top-notch, they may have little reason to leave.
