The Last of Ushas wall-to-wall suspense and tension against human bandits and fungal-infected monsters. This is sure to only be amplified inThe Last of Us Part 1, which is said to rework and rebuild all the original game’s AI systems in gameplay.
Joel is typically well-armed if players have been mindful of intermittent workbench upgrades, but it is still folly to rush recklessly into an engagement, especially if there are clickers or bloaters in the area. Now thatthese encounters will behave more comparably toThe Last of Us 2, there are many things players will need to consider when they get their hands on the game this September, particularly the fact that these encounters will not be exactly the same as they remember. Recently, one fan has expressed which sequence they dread returning to the most in the remake.

Twitter user DomTheBombYT has stated how distressed they will be when they reach a specific sequence in Pittsburgh. All the user has to show to illustrate the sequence is its particular generator, which spawns stalkers and bloaters in a dilapidated and spore-infested area of the hotel that Joel enters after being separated from Ellie. This scene can be incredibly tense as players must prepare for and fend off multiple enemies that wait to ambush them, and DomTheBombYT fears how this sequence could be even scarier with new AI inThe Last of Us Part 1.
Players have certain strategies for this sequence, such as when to pick up the hotel keycard or interact with the generator, triggering enemies to spawn. But for all fans know,The Last of Us Part 1could implement AI and other gameplay changesthat completely reinterprets this and many other encounters.
Stalkers inThe Last of Us 2, for example, are much more aggressive, and combat will surely be reworkedwith Joel’s close-quarters-combat likely resembling Abby’s. It is unclear if level designs will change accordingly to accommodate these remake changes. But that could also be the case, and thus the level layout for this hotel section would be different and disrupt players’ nostalgic muscle memory of the sequence.
The Last of Us Part 1may have some significant changes as a result, and will ultimately make certain parts of the game feel wholly new, depending on how much is actually reworked. Other fans have since shared which sequences they dread most, with some citing the late-game underground tunnel in Salt Lake City, the suburbs sequence evading the sniper, and the sewers sequence where Joel and Sam are trapped in a makeshift children’s area with stalkers.
The Last of Us Part 1is scheduled to release on September 2 on PS5. A PC port is also in development.
